In my life, I’ve owned exactly one campaign shirt. It’s for Brandon Herrera, and it’s for this election cycle. I don’t agree with him on everything, but the truth of the matter is that I like the guy overall, and I know he’ll be solid on the Second Amendment. The fact that we’ve got a few mutual acquaintances means I at least get a better glimpse at who he is than most.
And he might put on a character for YouTube, but the real him isn’t all that different with regard to what matters.
He’s also likely to win. That scares the hell out of the anti-gunners, and they’ve been driving hard to try and take down Herrera, even going after fellow guntubers in the process.
But there’s a reason it won’t do a lot of good.
To make matters worse for The Smoking Gun, I can almost guarantee that neither Herrera nor his team even care about the content of the hit piece. In fact, I doubt they have even read the story. Herrara has more than 4 million followers on his YouTube page. He likely receives about 4 million more views on every story than the anti-gun authors will get for their poorly written tripe.
The Smoking Gun is certainly not the only chunk of anti-gun media to target Herrera recently. The entire team of numbskulls is on board.
MS NOW claimed Republicans find Herrera “impossible to defend.”
USA TODAY did a story about what he said regarding “women, Nazi weapons.”
Daily Beast reporters “cornered” Speaker Mike Johnson about the “Vile MAGA candidate.”
Politico cited Herrera’s “detestable language.”
Esquire wants to know why Johnson is fundraising for Herrera, whom they described as a “Misogynistic troll.”
Axios called Herrera’s remarks “racist, vulgar.”
It’s been years since the mainstream media has been so united about anything, much less a U.S. House of Representatives race, in Texas no less.
Their main reason for blasting Herrera is more than clear. He is pro-gun. In fact, not only is he extremely open about his passion for firearms, he makes a good living thanks to guns. This, alone, has the other team seething with anger.
And the fact that he has that platform is why Tony Gonzales had to outspend him last time around at a 10 to one ratio just to hold onto his seat. Brandon and his friends know social media. They use it well, and between Herrera and his friend circle, plus those of us on the outside who believe the same thing about the right to keep and bear arms aren’t really that worked up about all the dirt they keep trying to dig up.
They blasted him for referring to (some) kids as “c*m trophies,” and were outraged…even as many of them were also celebrating Lindsay Clancy, who literally murdered her three children. Maybe I’ll consider being worried about less-than-flattering language about children like this — and I’ve used it to describe my own children, for crying out loud — when they decide to show a little consistency about children.
Potentially insulting language? How dare you!
Murder? That’s totes different. You go, girl!
Spare me.
Brandon Herrera scares the crap out of them because he’s someone who doesn’t need to play nice. In fact, his brand is him not playing nice with the anti-gunners. He doesn’t need their money, their support, or their respect, and that infuriates them because while they suspect most other Republicans view them similarly, the others aren’t as inclined to tell them to their face what they think.
Herrera said he wanted to turn the ATF building into a Spirit Halloween. Do you think he’s going to play nice with Giffords or Brady in the name of diplomacy?
They want people they can bully, and Herrera won’t give them that.
That’s not the reason I only own one campaign shirt out of a lifetime of politics. It’s the reason it’s Brandon’s shirt, though.
Editor’s Note: President Trump and Republicans across the country are doing everything they can to protect our Second Amendment rights and right to self-defense.
