$4.4 Million From the Family Linked to Swalwell’s Favorite Spy [WATCH]

CBS News correspondent Josh Boswell reported that a wealthy California family that donated millions of dollars to prominent Democratic politicians allegedly had connections to suspected Chinese spy Christine Fang, also known as Fang Fang.

The family identified in the report is the Yin family, led by patriarch C.C. Yin.

According to Boswell, the family has contributed significant sums to political causes and campaigns at both the state and federal levels, including donations connected to California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former Vice President Kamala Harris.

“CBS News has learned a California family who gave millions of dollars in political donations to Governor Gavin Newsom, Kamala Harris, and other leading California politicians allegedly had ties to a suspected Chinese spy,” Boswell said.

The allegations are based on newly released FBI files that Boswell said describe a working relationship between Yin and Fang through Asian Pacific Islander Public Affairs, a political organization associated with Yin.

“According to newly released FBI files, C.C. Yin, patriarch of the wealthy Yin family, had a close working relationship with suspected Chinese spy Fang Fang, also known as Christine Fang, through his political organization Asian Pacific Islander Public Affairs,” Boswell said.

Fang’s name has previously drawn attention because of allegations surrounding her activities in American political circles.

In the material presented by Boswell, her connection to Yin included appearing alongside him at a political event before she later left the United States.

“Fang even appeared alongside Yin at a dinner event in 2013, 2 years before she fled to China in 2015,” Boswell said.

Boswell also detailed the scale of political giving attributed to the Yin family.

“The Yin family has donated nearly $3 million to state-level political causes in California, along with an additional 1.4 million to federal campaigns,” Boswell said.

Those contributions placed the family among significant political donors, particularly in California, where the report linked their giving to major Democratic political figures.

At the same time, Boswell stressed that the existence of a relationship between Yin and Fang does not establish that the Yin family was acting on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party.

“However, there is no evidence that the Yin family has was acting on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party,” Boswell said.

That distinction is significant because the report identifies an alleged association with a suspected Chinese operative while stopping short of accusing the family itself of working for the Chinese government.

Yin also responded directly to CBS News and rejected foreign interference in American political affairs.

“Yin told CBS News, quote, I love America, and I strongly condemn any effort by any foreign government to interfere in American politics or undermine our democracy,” Boswell said.
