84-Year-Old Sen Mitch McConnell Hospitalized

Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell was hospitalized Sunday for an undisclosed medical issue.

The 84-year-old senator entered the hospital Sunday morning and is “receiving excellent care,” a spokesperson for McConnell confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation. He has faced a series of health issues in recent years.

McConnell was hospitalized in February for flu-like symptoms, which forced him to miss votes. He also fell in the basement of the Russell Senate Office building in October 2025 while a reporter blocked him from accessing the railing while peppering him with questions about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The elderly senator also suffered a concussion in a March 2023 fall, and he experienced two on-camera freezing episodes that summer. He sustained minor injuries in another fall in December 2024, prompting him to be confined to a wheelchair at the time.

McConnell is frequently seen holding onto a member of his security team while walking around Capitol Hill.

McConnell announced in December 2024 he would step down as the Senate’s Republican leader after serving in the role for nearly two decades. He also decided in February 2025 he would not seek reelection after his current term expires in January 2027.
