Adria Arjona Joins Superman Sequel After Casting Rumors, DC Is Still Keeping Her Role Under Wraps

Adria Arjona is officially headed into James Gunn’s DC universe, but the studio is still playing the mystery box game with exactly who she will be playing.

Arjona has joined the cast of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, the upcoming sequel to Gunn’s Superman, in what multiple reports described as an undisclosed role. The Hollywood Reporter said she landed the part after several rounds of screen tests, while additional coverage noted that DC Studios had not publicly identified the character as of Tuesday.

That secrecy is a big reason the news immediately turned into fan speculation. Arjona’s name had already been circulating in recent days after earlier reports linked her to a mystery female role in the film. But that reporting got messy fast when Gunn publicly pushed back on claims that Arjona, Marisa Abela and Ella Purnell were testing for the role of Maxima. Entertainment Weekly reported that Gunn called that earlier report “bulls—” and “shoddy and incorrect,” adding that he had never met Abela or Purnell and that while he is friends with Arjona, the reporting around the casting process was not accurate.

That is what makes Tuesday’s development more interesting than a normal casting update. Arjona is in the movie. That part now appears settled. But the exact role remains unclear, which leaves the internet doing what it always does when DC keeps a character name hidden for more than five minutes.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Some fan speculation has centered on Wonder Woman, while other coverage has pointed back to Maxima, the comic book warrior queen whose name had been tied to the movie during the earlier round of rumors. None of that has been officially confirmed by DC Studios in the reports currently available.

The movie itself is already a major piece of Gunn’s rebooted DC slate. Man of Tomorrow is the next DC Studios feature set to go into production, and it stars David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Entertainment Weekly also reported that Aaron Pierre is set to reprise his role as John Stewart from HBO’s Lanterns, while Lars Eidinger is playing Brainiac. The film is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.

For Arjona, the casting adds another major franchise credit to a resumw that has kept growing over the last few years. She has built momentum with roles in projects such as Andor, Hit Man and Splitsville, and now lands in one of the most closely watched comic book franchises in Hollywood. Even with the role still hidden, stepping into a Gunn-led DC film is not exactly a small assignment.

The odd part of the story is that the casting news almost feels like the second chapter of the same argument. First came the rumor cycle, then Gunn’s public takedown of the reporting around it, and now Arjona has indeed joined the film anyway. That does not mean the earlier details were right.

This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year

In fact, the current reporting still leaves the most important detail blank. But it does mean Arjona is now officially part of Man of Tomorrow, and DC fans will spend the next stretch trying to decode whether the studio is hiding a supporting role, a villain reveal, or something much bigger.

So the confirmed part is simple enough. Adria Arjona is in Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The role has not been publicly named. James Gunn previously rejected inaccurate reporting tied to the project’s casting process. And until DC decides to stop enjoying the suspense, the guessing game is going to keep going.
