Seven months after Alex Pretti was fatally shot in Minneapolis, his parents and sister appeared Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America” to describe their loss and demand answers.

Michael and Susan Pretti, joined by Micayla Pretti, told George Stephanopoulos that nobody has been held accountable, as reported by Breitbart.

Stephanopoulos opened the interview by asking, “My first question is, it has been seven months; why do you want to speak now?”

The family said the passage of time had only strengthened its determination to establish what occurred.

Michael Pretti answered, “We really want to get the facts out of what happened to Alex that day. I mean, we’ve seen what happened. The videos are pretty clear, but we want justice and accountability for the people that did this to Alex.”

The father remembered his son as someone devoted to fairness and the city he called home.

He said, “He was a good man. He’s a good kid. He cared deeply about his community. Minneapolis was his community. He wanted people to be treated fairly, no matter what walk of life, what their background was.”

Stephanopoulos then asked, “What did he tell you about why he was protesting?” Michael Pretti disputed that characterization of what his son was doing on the day he died.

“He wasn’t really protesting. I mean, and that’s one thing we want to be clear. The day he was murdered, he was not at a protest. He was an observer, and that’s why he had his phone,” Michael Pretti said.

The family also described the horrifying way it learned about the shooting.

Rather than receiving a direct notification before the images emerged publicly, the Prettis said they recognized their son while watching television coverage.

Michael Pretti recalled, “We watched it, we watched it on TV. And I was like, that’s our son. That’s Alex, and they killed him. No one called us.”

His account captured the raw disbelief of parents realizing that the person on the screen was their own child.

He added, “That’s how we found out, watching it on TV, watching our son be shot ten times on TV in the back. Trying to help someone being beaten with tear gas canisters, sprayed with tear gas.”

Susan Pretti emphasized what she said could be seen in the footage as her son encountered the chaotic scene. She said he was standing “With a camera in one hand and his left hand empty in the air.”

For Susan Pretti, her son’s attempt to assist someone was consistent with the man she knew.

“I was not shocked that he helped somebody. My shock is that he was murdered and no one has given us the complete truth or anyone has been held accountable, and it’s been seven months,” she said.

Michael Pretti argued that public attacks against his son took priority over a serious pursuit of the facts. “There was more effort in vilifying him than pursuing justice, investigating this,” he said.

The interview also addressed severe descriptions of Pretti that remained online after the shooting.

Stephanopoulos said, “You heard Stephen Miller use the word assassin, use the word domestic terrorist. Some of those posts are still up.”

Susan Pretti responded with anguish over hearing those descriptions attached to her son.

“Yes. We still hear those words about our child. A kid who is out observing something that should not be happening in this world today in the United States. Why? What did he do to deserve to be murdered? Left cold on the ground, dead, my child. What did he do?”

The family’s appearance placed renewed attention on the fatal encounter and the unanswered questions surrounding it.

Video evidence may shape public judgment, but the Prettis made clear they want a complete investigation, an official accounting, and consequences based on established facts.

Seven months is a long time for parents to wait while public officials, commentators, and media voices argue over what happened.

Whatever political narratives surround the case, the family’s demand is straightforward: determine the truth, explain it openly, and hold responsible parties accountable.
