Kerry Sheron, a 69-year-old Army veteran known locally as the owner of the “Trump house” in Southern California, died Sunday night after he was allegedly attacked outside his Escondido home on May 20, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

Sheron had decorated his home with Trump banners and American flags. He was hospitalized in critical condition after the alleged attack and died days later from his injuries.

Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, has been identified as the suspect in the case. Butler, described in local reports as a Navy veteran, was previously charged with attempted murder, elder abuse, making criminal threats, and battery.

His charges are expected to be upgraded following Sheron’s death.

Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia said Sheron was attacked by Butler outside the home.

“It was a single punch to the jaw,” Ross Garcia said, according to NBC San Diego. “The victim then falls to the floor, and there are subsequent hits to the victim’s head area.”

The attack happened May 20 outside Sheron’s home in Escondido, police said. Prosecutors allege Butler attacked Sheron in what officials described as an unprovoked assault.

Sheron was known in the area for covering his residence with MAGA banners and American flags. Photos shared with the original report showed Sheron and Butler, with the images credited to Kerry Sheron’s Facebook page and Thomas Butler’s LinkedIn page.

The case drew attention after Sheron, a Trump-supporting Army veteran, was hospitalized in critical condition. He died Sunday night, nearly a week after the alleged assault.

Butler has pleaded not guilty to charges including attempted murder, elder abuse, criminal threats, and battery, according to reports cited in the original article. Prosecutors said the charges will be upgraded after Sheron died from his injuries.

The New York Post reported that Sheron was “a 69-year-old Army veteran known locally for covering his residence with MAGA banners and American flags.”

The Post also reported that the attack happened outside Sheron’s home in Escondido and that Butler was accused of attacking Sheron in an assault described by officials as unprovoked.

Sheron’s death followed several days in the hospital after the May 20 incident.

The original report identified Sheron as the owner of the “Trump house” in Southern California and said he was known for his visible support of President Trump through banners and American flags displayed at his residence.

Authorities initially charged Butler before Sheron’s death. The charges included attempted murder, elder abuse, making criminal threats, and battery. Following Sheron’s death Sunday night, prosecutors said the charges would be upgraded.

Butler, who has been described in local reports as a Navy veteran, has pleaded not guilty. The case remains tied to the May 20 incident outside Sheron’s Escondido home.
