Bill Maher Brutally Shreds Socialists and Fauci with Withering Takedowns [WATCH]

Bill Maher unloaded Friday on several of the week’s biggest political issues, delivering withering attacks on Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Democratic Socialists of America, and socialist candidates trying to distance themselves from their own previous comments.

As sister site Townhall reported, Maher raked Fauci over the coals by focusing on material from his diary.

In particular, Maher mocked what he presented as Fauci’s striking case of main character syndrome.

Maher began by revisiting a game he had previously played involving Fauci and President Donald Trump.

The comparison allowed him to emphasize just how self focused he found Fauci’s diary entries.

“Last week I played a game here called, ‘Who said it: Fauci or Trump?’” Maher said.

“Let’s play!”

According to Maher, Fauci appeared unusually “energized” by the way he was embraced by “one particular cultural tribe.”

Maher then revealed that the material under discussion did not come from Trump.

“None of that is Trump. That’s all Fauci. Writing to himself…at 80,” Maher declared.

“Talk about main character syndrome!”

It was a pointed evisceration of Fauci and the hero worship surrounding him.

Maher’s criticism centered on the idea that fame and cultural approval had become deeply significant parts of the public health figure’s identity.

Maher then turned his attention to the Democratic Socialists of America, also known as the DSA.

He mocked a photograph from one of the organization’s conventions showing attendees wearing masks in July 2026.

“I showed this picture last week…” Maher said while displaying the photograph.

“That’s a Democratic Socialist meeting in Colorado…LAST MONTH!”

Maher acknowledged that the scene represented an extreme example, but he argued it still reflected a broader direction among one side of the country.

His criticism connected the convention photograph with progressive attitudes toward COVID.

“Now, that’s extreme, but it’s the direction that that half of the country tends toward.”

To reinforce the point, Maher cited work by David Leonhardt about the relationship between Democrats, progressive identity, and behavior during the pandemic.

The quotation focused on how some Democrats made COVID a central organizing part of their daily lives.

“David Leonhardt studied this issue and wrote of Democrats during the pandemic; ‘organizing their lives around COVID is core to their identity as progressives.’”

Maher then connected that argument directly to his criticism of Fauci.

For Maher, the progressive attachment to pandemic-era behavior helped explain why he objected so strongly to the celebration of Fauci.

“And that is the place where I have a problem with the hero worship of Anthony Fauci.”

Maher followed that statement with an especially cutting assessment of what fame can do to public figures.

“Because it seems fame is a drug with a 100% addiction rate.”

The criticism did not stop with Fauci or the masked DSA convention.

Maher also targeted socialist candidates who have tried to run away from their own previous problematic comments.

Maher said he did not believe those attempts at denial and argued that the candidates should stop making them.

The bottom line was that they could not escape either their prior wild remarks or what the article described as their present unhinged platform.

The segment also included a particularly funny takedown of Francesca Hong, the Democrats’ candidate for governor in Wisconsin.

Her earlier comments and political positions became central parts of Maher’s broader attack on socialist candidates attempting to change how voters see them.

At this point, Hong has been so thoroughly exposed that it will be difficult for anyone in Wisconsin to feel they can vote for her.

Maher’s treatment left little room for the denials offered by candidates confronting their own records.

Taken together, the remarks delivered a blistering attack on Fauci’s diary, progressive COVID identity, DSA convention behavior, and socialist candidates retreating from previous statements.

Maher used their own words, images, and platform to make the takedown sting.
