A Boston City Council member publicly criticized Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan after he vowed to crack down on the city’s sanctuary policies, calling his remarks “laughable.”
Councilwoman Sharon Durkan took to social media following Homan’s fiery speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday, where he condemned Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox for reinforcing the city’s policy of non-cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Homan directed strong words at Cox over the city’s refusal to honor ICE detainers.
Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans
“You said you doubled down on not helping the law enforcement officers of ICE. I’m coming to Boston, and I’m bringing hell with me,” Homan said during his CPAC speech.
“I looked at the numbers this morning… I stopped counting at nine. Nine child rapists that were in jail in Massachusetts, but rather than honoring an ICE detainer, you released them back into the street.”
Homan continued his criticism by questioning Cox’s law enforcement priorities. “You’re not a police commissioner,” he said. “Take that badge off your chest. Put it in the desk drawer. Because you became a politician. You forgot what it’s like to be a cop.”

Durkan, in response, took aim at Homan’s early career in law enforcement, mocking his experience as a police officer in the small village of West Carthage, New York, during the 1980s.
She noted that he soon transitioned into border enforcement, later working for ICE under both the Obama and Trump administrations.
“Laughable that someone who spent their career policing a town smaller than a Fenway Park crowd thinks they can lecture Boston on public safety,” Durkan posted on X.
She went on to defend Commissioner Cox, stating, “Commissioner Michael Cox serves with distinction and earns trust with integrity. Tom Homan should know, we don’t scare easy.”

Cox has previously spoken out about the city’s stance on immigration enforcement, making clear that Boston police do not cooperate with ICE detainers in accordance with Massachusetts law.
“We just don’t do that,” Cox said during a recent interview on WCVB’s On the Record. “We don’t enforce civil detainers regarding federal immigration law. It’s defined here in the state, and that’s just how it works.”
Meanwhile, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Boston has been actively arresting criminal migrants in recent weeks.
Among those taken into custody were MS-13 gang members and an illegal alien from Guatemala who was charged earlier this month with multiple counts of child rape.
As the debate over sanctuary policies continues, Homan remains vocal about the dangers of non-cooperation with federal immigration authorities, while city officials in Boston maintain their commitment to limiting local law enforcement’s involvement in federal immigration matters.
