A circus acrobat was hospitalized after a serious accident during a performance in Brazil over the weekend. The fall occurred when the performer lost her grip on a suspended stunt and plummeted to the floor in front of a shocked audience, as reported by TMZ.

The incident happened Saturday at Circo Robatiny, where acrobat Aliane Dias was performing an aerial act in which she was suspended by her hair from a steel cable.

During the stunt, Dias suddenly fell, hitting the ground hard as spectators gasped in alarm, according to reports from NeedToKnow.

Emergency personnel provided immediate treatment at the scene before transporting Dias to a local hospital. On Sunday, Circo Robatiny released a statement confirming that she was taken to a municipal emergency room and was “in good condition and already recovering.”

The circus attributed the mishap to human error.

“In this act, she is suspended by her hair from a steel cable, and the artist herself is responsible for tying it according to protocol. In this case, she admitted the tying was done differently from usual, which caused it to come undone and led to the accident,” the company said.

Officials did not provide further details on why Dias tied the cord differently for the performance.

Despite the accident, Circo Robatiny announced that its shows would continue as scheduled. The program will resume with one performance on Friday night, followed by three shows on both Saturday and Sunday.

Hair-hanging, also known as capelli, is a traditional circus act requiring the performer to suspend their entire body weight by hair tied to specialized rigging.

It is considered one of the more dangerous stunts due to the reliance on precise technique and the risks involved if the apparatus fails.

Videos and images of the incident have circulated widely online, showing the moment Dias fell and the immediate reaction of the crowd.

Circus representatives have not said when Dias will be able to return to performing. For now, the company emphasized her recovery and reassured audiences that performances will continue with other acts filling in.
