Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi suggested Wednesday there is a chance for female priests in the near future during a security conference in Washington, D.C.

Pelosi, a democrat from California, spoke about her two favorite contenders to be the next Pope. She was asked by Politico’s Jonathan Martin, “Do you think we will see female priests in your kids’ lifetime?”

Pelosi responded, “… maybe my grandkids.” (RELATED: A ‘Progressive’ Minority Is Pushing Female Ordination, LGBTQ Issues During Catholic Annual Meeting, Advocates Say)

In May of 2022, Pelosi was banned from receiving communion by Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone in San Fransisco due to her pro-choice sentiments, according to NPR.

In the notification, Cordileone stated, “A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons ‘are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.’”

Despite the decision of her local archdiocese to refuse communion, Pelosi received communion during papal mass with Pope Francis in June of that year, causing contention among the community. Pelosi’s communion ban was overturned in December. (RELATED: Catholics Biden And Pelosi Silent On Attacks Against Catholic Churches)
