The Charlotte Hornets are trading Miles Bridges, a 2029 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick to the Phoenix Suns for Grayson Allen, Royce O’Neale and a 2033 first-round pick, according to sources who spoke to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

This marks the second major trade the Hornets have finalized in three days, coming shortly after they sent All-Star point guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday.

As part of their recent moves, the Hornets also agreed to a three-year $74 million deal to retain Coby White.

Bridges played a big role last season helping Charlotte move within one play-in victory of ending a playoff drought that dated to 2016.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

The veteran forward served as a popular leader among a young Hornets core and was credited with contributing the small things that aided LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and rookie Kon Knueppel as they became more of the offensive focal points.

Charlotte finished with 44 wins last season after earning just 19 the year prior. The team held an 11-23 record on Jan. 2 before winning 32 of its next 45 games.

From Jan. 1 to the end of the regular season, the Hornets had the league’s top-ranked offense and fifth-ranked defense, with Bridges providing much of the team’s toughness inside.

Even as his usage decreased, Bridges averaged 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds during the 2025-26 season.

By acquiring the 28-year-old, the Suns saved $20 million in luxury tax while also opening a roster spot ahead of free agency.

In return, Charlotte adds veterans Grayson Allen and Royce O’Neale along with Phoenix’s unprotected first-round pick in 2033.

The first-round pick headed from Charlotte will be the least favorable among selections from Charlotte, Utah, Cleveland or Minnesota in 2029.

Bridges has played his entire career for the Hornets since being drafted out of Michigan State and traded to Charlotte by the Clippers.

He now joins a Suns franchise that includes several Michigan State connections, including owner Mat Ishbia, general manager Brian Gregory and coach Jordan Ott.

Bridges previously missed the entire 2022-23 season and part of the 2023-24 campaign due to a suspension following a plea of no contest to felony domestic abuse.

He has one year remaining on the free agent deal he signed in 2024.
