Christopher Reeve’s Son Will Reveals Testicular Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment [WATCH]

Will Reeve, the son of Christopher Reeve, revealed Tuesday that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and underwent an arduous series of treatments over the summer, as reported by Page Six.

The 34-year-old “Good Morning America” correspondent assured viewers “right off the top” that he is now “OK.”

“The diagnosis was a shock, and the treatments were a slog,” Will said. “Today, though, I am relieved to announce that we arrived at our destination and this cancer is in the rearview mirror. But what a journey.”

The health crisis began just four months after Will married Amanda Dubin in January. He discovered “a hard, tender lump in [his] left testicle,” prompting a medical visit that would quickly turn the newlyweds’ lives upside down.

Will underwent an ultrasound “at Amanda’s urging.” He recalled that “the images confirmed the unimaginable” and revealed that he “had a mass that had to come out.”

In May, Will underwent an orchiectomy to remove the affected testicle. He initially believed the procedure would mark a “momentary frightening detour,” but the situation became more serious when doctors diagnosed him with embryonal carcinoma, described as an aggressive form of testicular cancer.

The diagnosis led to another operation, during which dozens of lymph nodes were removed from his abdomen to prevent the cancer from spreading. That surgery took place at Memorial Sloan Kettering, a location carrying deeply painful significance for the Reeve family.

Will’s mother, Dana Reeve, died in the same building after battling lung cancer. She was 44 when she died in 2006, two years after Christopher died at age 52.

Will subsequently made what he called the “necessary choice” to receive chemotherapy in an effort to sharply reduce his chances of a recurrence.

The treatment brought a punishing list of symptoms, including ringing ears, night sweats, blood clots, constant headaches, and bone pain.

He did not lose his hair during chemotherapy because he used a cold cap method. He also banked sperm so that he and Dubin can pursue starting a family through in vitro fertilization one day.

Will said he received “clean scans” on Sept. 8. In a People interview, he added that although he is “going to be fine,” the cancer battle represented “one heck of a chapter” in his life.

“I’m fortunate that I caught this early,” he stressed. “Yes, I had to jump through some flaming hoops to get to the other side, but it could have been much worse had I ignored it or delayed going to the doctor.”

Throughout the ordeal, Will credited Dubin with serving as his “caregiver.”

He compared his wife’s support to the care his mother provided for Christopher after the “Superman” star was left paralyzed following a horseback riding accident in 1995.

“I learn[ed] more about what it was like to be my dad in the final nine years of his life, where he had my mom and our family taking care of him,” Will explained.

He said his parents taught him how to face adversity and “repurpose it into something hopeful.”

Dubin described her husband’s cancer battle as “early validation” that the pair can “tackle anything” together.

Her encouragement had also played a critical role at the beginning of the ordeal, when she urged Will to seek an ultrasound after he discovered the lump.

The couple publicly confirmed their romance in April 2023.

They became engaged in November of the following year and married in Miami in January, only months before Will discovered the concerning symptom.

Now, after two surgeries, chemotherapy, and a grueling collection of side effects, Will says the cancer is behind him.

His clean scans brought welcome relief after a journey that began with a lump and escalated into aggressive treatment within the first year of his marriage.
