Rep. John Larson introduced a new set of impeachment articles against President Donald Trump on Monday, as the longtime congressman faces a competitive primary challenge from younger candidates seeking to replace him, as reported by Fox News.

Larson, 77, filed 13 articles of impeachment, citing several actions taken by the Trump administration, including military operations in Venezuela, the deployment of National Guard troops in U.S. cities, and an executive order addressing birthright citizenship.

The resolution also includes accusations tied to U.S. military activity in the Western Hemisphere.

Larson charged Trump with “murder, war crimes, and piracy” related to a naval blockade around Venezuela targeting oil tankers under U.S. sanctions and strikes against suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean.

“Through his serial usurpation of the congressional war power and commission of murder, war crimes, and piracy, Donald J. Trump has acted contrary to his trust as President and subversive of constitutional government, to the great prejudice of law, liberty, and justice and to the manifest injury of the people of the United States,” the resolution reads in part.

The effort is considered unlikely to advance in the Republican-controlled House, where impeachment would require majority support. Even if a vote were forced, the measure would face additional hurdles in the Senate.

Larson’s move comes as he seeks a 15th term in Congress while facing pressure from challengers calling for generational change.

Among them is Luke Bronin, 46, a former mayor of Hartford and military veteran. Bronin has publicly urged Larson to step aside after nearly three decades in office and has outraised him in the early months of his campaign.

Larson is a senior member of the House Ways and Means Committee and has served in Congress since the late 1990s. In February 2025, he experienced a complex partial seizure while speaking on the House floor, drawing attention during his tenure.

It remains unclear whether House Democratic leadership supports Larson’s impeachment effort. A spokesperson for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Representative Hakeem Jeffries attends the Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Assembly meeting, and elected officials celebrate his election as House Minority Leader of the Democratic Party at the ANN headquarters in New York City on December 10, 2022.

Larson is the latest House Democrat to introduce impeachment articles against Trump during his current term.

The president has previously warned that Democrats could pursue another impeachment effort if they regain control of the House following the 2026 midterm elections.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently addressed the possibility in an interview, stating that Democrats would remain focused on cost-of-living concerns, though she did not rule out impeachment efforts in the future.

Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to both Larson and the White House for comment on the impeachment filing.
