Several Democrats Condemning Hamas All Of A Sudden

A wave of New York Democrats rushed to condemn Hamas after protesters chanted support for the terrorist group outside a Queens synagogue last week.

The Palestinian Assembly for Liberation organized the Jan. 8 demonstration outside Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, CBS New York reported. Protesters gathered across the street from the yeshiva to oppose an Israeli real estate event. Video posted to social media showed demonstrators chanting “We support Hamas here” while waving Palestinian flags.

The clip spread quickly online and drew condemnations from top Democratic officials, Fox News reported. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the chants inappropriate for the city. (RELATED: Top Mamdani Pick Out After Single Day On Job As Antisemitic Past Resurfaces)

The statement came months after Mamdani refused to condemn Hamas during an October interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum. He instead pivoted to discussing affordability for New Yorkers.

Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who delivered opening remarks at Mamdani’s inauguration, posted on X that “marching into a predominantly Jewish neighborhood and leading with a chant saying ‘we support Hamas’ is a disgusting and antisemitic thing to do.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called Hamas “a terrorist organization committed to the destruction of Jews” and said chanting support for the group “is antisemitic and unacceptable.”

Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul wrote that “Hamas is a terrorist organization that calls for the genocide of Jews. No matter your political beliefs, this type of rhetoric is disgusting, it’s dangerous, and it has no place in New York.”

State Attorney General Letitia James kept her message brief, writing, “Hamas is a terrorist organization. We do not support terrorists. Period.”

Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Democratic Nevada Sen. Jacky Rosen, along with New York Democratic Rep. Laura Gillen, issued similar statements.

Not everyone praised the Democratic response. Mamdani revoked several pro-Israel executive orders days before the protest, including one restricting demonstrations near houses of worship, CBS New York reported.

Conservative commentator Jaimee Michell offered a blunt assessment on X, saying, “How to tell it’s an election year: Democrats condemn Hamas.”
