Former FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino spoke about his time inside the bureau during a recent interview, describing the experience as one that left a lasting impact on him and raising concerns about what he said he uncovered while serving in the agency.

In a sit-down with Sean Hannity, Bongino said his work inside the FBI changed him permanently and expressed concern about potential consequences tied to his actions while in the role.

“I will never be the same,” Bongino said.

“I’m being as serious as a stroke right now. I’m scared, man. I know what I did. And I’m proud of my work.”

He emphasized that his actions during his time in the bureau followed established procedures.

“I promise you, everything I did, I did with a dotted I and a crossed T,” Bongino said.

“Everything was by the book. I’m confident in that.”

Despite that, Bongino said he believes adherence to rules may not provide protection, referencing past investigations involving President Donald Trump.

“They’ll rewrite the book just like they did for President Trump,” Bongino said.

During the interview, Bongino also described what he called a significant collection of documents connected to the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation, which examined alleged ties between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.

“What I saw was ten times worse than I expected,” Bongino said, adding that he believed some of the material he encountered may not have been intended for public discovery.

He said the documents raised concerns about how certain information may have been handled and suggested that some of the material could have been at risk of being destroyed.

Bongino did not release any of the documents during the interview, but he indicated that developments in recent cases may be linked to the material he referenced.

“I know what I started. I know what I laid out,” he said.

“And I know you saw a lot of these cases coming out over the past few days.”

He also described what he characterized as divisions within the FBI, suggesting there are effectively “two FBIs” operating with different standards.

According to Bongino, one segment follows traditional law enforcement practices, while another operates under a different approach.

Bongino said that dynamic has contributed to internal challenges and public skepticism surrounding the agency.

He also discussed personal concerns about potential repercussions tied to political developments, including the possibility of changes in leadership.

“I say to my wife all the time — you don’t think on election night, if we lose, it’s not going through my head?” Bongino said.

“They’re going to come for me.”

He linked those concerns to prior investigations involving the Trump administration, including the Russia probe.

“I was never the same after that,” Bongino said.

“Not a single person stopped them.”

Bongino also addressed security concerns, referencing a recent shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

He said the event highlighted ongoing vulnerabilities and the need for additional resources to protect officials.

Despite his concerns, Bongino said he stands by his actions and does not regret his decisions.

“It’s not a sob story,” he said.

“I knew what I was getting into.”

He concluded by describing the ongoing impact of his experience.

“I think about it every day,” Bongino said.

“And that’s what’s really sad.”
