A quiet day at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, turned tragic Wednesday morning when a shooting in the school cafeteria left one student dead and another injured.

The incident, which unfolded just after 11:00 a.m. local time, sent shockwaves through the community as families scrambled for answers and authorities worked to piece together the events, as reported by Fox 10 Phoenix.

Metro Nashville Police confirmed that the shooter, a 17-year-old male student, pulled out a pistol and fired multiple rounds in the cafeteria.

One female student was fatally shot, while another sustained a grazing injury to her arm and is now in stable condition. A third student suffered a facial injury, though it was not caused by gunfire.

The shooter, whose identity has not yet been released, is also deceased. Law enforcement officials have yet to disclose whether his death was self-inflicted or a result of intervention.

SWAT teams quickly descended on the school to secure the building and ensure no additional threats remained. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), and the FBI are now assisting local law enforcement in their investigation.

Students were transported to a reunification center at 3654 Murfreesboro Pike, a short distance from the school, where concerned parents awaited updates. Families in need of information have been advised to call 615-401-1712 for assistance.

As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains a mystery. Authorities have not released the names of the shooter or the victims, leaving the community with unanswered questions.
