  • Crews continued searching off Nantucket for possible survivors, with Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling operating through the night.

U.S. Coast Guard crews found a debris field off Nantucket that officials confirmed was associated with a missing medevac flight carrying six people. The Gulfstream G100 disappeared Saturday morning while traveling from Bermuda to Boston.

Crews continued searching for possible survivors after the discovery. Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling was scheduled to continue the search throughout the night, while officials planned a news conference for Sunday morning.

The missing aircraft is a Gulfstream G100, a midsize jet with two engines. The Coast Guard Northeast District said both air and surface crews had been sent to the waters off Nantucket.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported losing contact with the aircraft early Saturday, according to the Coast Guard. The agency said it was coordinating with the Rescue Coordination Center and the Coast Guard to find the plane.

FlightAware data showed the aircraft departed Bermuda L. F. Wade International Airport at 11:41 p.m. ET. The FAA told Fox News Digital that it issued a Search and Rescue Alert Notice at about 1:20 a.m. ET.

The Massachusetts Port Authority, which operates the state’s three major airports, confirmed that the plane failed to reach Boston Logan International Airport as scheduled. “Our thoughts are with those on board and their loved ones as the search continues,” the agency said.

Latitude Air Ambulance confirmed to Fox News Digital that it owns the Canadian-registered aircraft and that the plane was conducting a medevac flight. Two Canadian pilots, two medical workers, one patient and the patient’s companion were aboard.

Latitude Air Ambulance is a medical transport company that brings patients home from around the world when specialized care is required. The company said the journey was expected to last about two hours.

FlightAware data indicated that the aircraft plunged from 24,000 feet to 11,000 feet in only three minutes at around 1 a.m. The sharp descent occurred before authorities reported losing contact with the jet.

Skyport, which manages the Bermuda airport, reported a different departure time. It said the Canadian-registered air ambulance left L. F. Wade International Airport for Boston at approximately 12:41 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Skyport said six people, including four crew members and two passengers, were aboard. The company also said the FAA had advised that air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft off Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.

Bermuda Premier David Burt addressed the search in a statement. “My thoughts are with the six people aboard the missing air ambulance traveling from Bermuda to Boston, and their families,” Burt said.

“Government has contacted the family and US search and rescue authorities. We are praying that everyone will be found safe,” Burt added, as American crews continued the urgent operation off the Massachusetts coast.

Former U.S. Department of Transportation Inspector General Mary Schiavo described the sequence of events in analysis shared with Fox News Digital. “This aircraft was dealt a dire one-two punch: a critical safety in-flight problem, followed almost immediately by a perilous weather event and an 11,000-foot plunge,” she said.

The National Transportation Safety Board told Fox News Digital that it was gathering information about the situation. The agency declined to provide an additional update while the search remained underway.

By Saturday afternoon, the Coast Guard had deployed an HC-130 Hercules crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, New Jersey, and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod.

The Coast Guard also sent a 47-foot motor lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Brant Point, Massachusetts. Coast Guard Cutter William Sparling, a Boston-based Fast Response Cutter, joined the operation as crews searched the area through the night.
