Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer set the record straight and said flat out that she will not be running for president in 2028.

Whitmer was one of many rumored Democrats weighing a presidential bid in 2028. Despite the flurry of online speculation, Whitmer confirmed that she would not be running for president after confiding in political veterans like former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and even former Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan. “I’m also looking forward to taking a bit of a break and thinking about it, not jumping right into something,” Whitmer said in a video posted to X by Fox 2 Detroit’s Roop Raj.

“That’s the advice that everyone says is, ‘Take a little bit of time.’ So that’s what I’m going to do,” Whitmer added.

“I think there will be a robust group of people running for president,” Whitmer said. “I will not be one of them in 2028. I can tell you that.”

Other high-profile Democrats have remained intentionally vague about their political ambitions, including former Vice President and 2024 Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. (RELATED: Kamala Harris Says She’s Considering The One Thing Nobody Wants Her To Do)

“I might,” Harris said when asked if she would run for president in 2028. “I am thinking about it.”
