Brian Varela, a congressional candidate seeking the Democratic nomination in a fiercely competitive New Jersey district, pledged to run a “No Negativity” campaign in a Jan. 28 press release. A slight hiccup: Varela “approached several of his opponents’ campaigns with a proposition: Pool their money to dig up dirt on rival Rebecca Bennett, who’s seen as the closest thing there is to a frontrunner” for the Democratic nomination, according to Politico.
