Denny Hamlin turned Dover into his personal paycheck Sunday night.

Hamlin dominated the NASCAR All-Star Race at Dover Motor Speedway and took home the $1 million winner-take-all prize, beating Chase Briscoe to claim his second career All-Star Race victory. The win came after Hamlin took control late and never gave it back on a night when the concrete mile finally got its turn to host NASCAR’s annual exhibition show.

The biggest detail of the night was how decisive it looked once Hamlin got out front for good. He passed his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Briscoe with 29 laps remaining and stayed clear from there, finishing 0.887 seconds ahead at the checkered flag. He led 103 laps overall and looked like the strongest car when the race reached the segment that actually paid.

That mattered because this was not a normal points race. The 2026 All-Star Race at Dover used a new format, with the event split into two 75-lap segments followed by a 200-lap final segment that determined the million-dollar winner. NASCAR also added a twist by inverting the top 26 finishers from the opening segment for the second leg before setting the final running order through a combination of segment results and eligibility rules. Dover, meanwhile, hosted the event for the first time in its history.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Hamlin’s win carried some bigger historical weight too. It was his second All-Star Race victory, and the gap between his two wins was 11 years, tying the longest span between All-Star Race victories with Kevin Harvick and Terry Labonte. So this was more than just a one-night exhibition score. It was a veteran driver reaching back into a very particular kind of NASCAR spotlight and cashing in again.

Behind Hamlin and Briscoe, Erik Jones finished third, Austin Dillon came home fourth, and Connor Zilisch rounded out the top five. That left several big names chasing rather than controlling the night, even though the race had enough chaos and long green-flag stretches to make it feel like it could swing in different directions. Once Hamlin cleared Briscoe, though, the suspense mostly turned into a countdown to the payout.

The result also fit the broader shape of Hamlin’s season. He is still trying to build rhythm in 2026 after a difficult offseason personally, and Sunday’s win was another reminder that when he has speed underneath him, the edge is still very much there. Dover’s All-Star setup may have been different, but the finishing instinct looked familiar.

For NASCAR, the night was also a test of whether moving the All-Star Race to Dover and revamping the format would actually work. On the simple question of whether the event produced a headline, the answer was yes.

This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year

Dover got its first All-Star Race, the new format delivered a clear late-race battle, and Hamlin walked out with the giant check. That is about as close to the intended script as the sport could have asked for.

On a track known for chewing up cars and patience, the All-Star Race ended with a familiar name standing on top and a very large payday in hand.
