The Trump administration is considering a tough new measure aimed directly at cities that refuse to enforce federal immigration law.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has revealed that his department is preparing plans to suspend immigration and customs processing at international airports located in Democrat controlled sanctuary cities.

Mullin discussed the idea during an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity. He made clear that the days of sanctuary jurisdictions taking free passes on federal law might soon be over.

The message from the administration is simple.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

If local leaders refuse to cooperate with immigration authorities, they should not expect the federal government to keep international flights flowing smoothly into their airports.

“We’re currently drawing up plans to say listen, in these sanctuary cities, where the local, radical left Democrats aren’t allowing us to do our job and enforce federal laws, then we shouldn’t be processing international flights into their cities either,” Mullin said on Hannity’s show.

He added that the current arrangement defies reason.

“Because they don’t want us to enforce immigration, but they want us to process immigration at their facilities? Nothing about that makes sense to me.”

Mullin’s remarks drew strong applause from conservatives frustrated by years of left-wing obstruction in cities like New York and San Francisco.

The proposal, if implemented, would upend operations at some of the country’s busiest airports.

That includes international hubs in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, Denver, Philadelphia, and Newark.

Major airlines and freight companies would face significant disruption, but the move sends a clear warning to local officials who think they can both ignore and benefit from federal enforcement efforts at the same time.

Millions of international travelers are expected to arrive in the United States in June for the FIFA World Cup.

The timing adds urgency to the administration’s planning as sanctuary jurisdictions prepare to welcome an influx of visitors while continuing to protect illegal immigrant populations from deportation.

Sanctuary cities have long been a thorn in the side of federal immigration authorities.

They deliberately limit or outright refuse cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Local officials justify the policies under the guise of “community trust,” but in reality, the goal is to protect those who have entered the country illegally.

Many conservatives view these policies as reckless and dangerous, creating safe havens for criminal aliens.

The Department of Justice previously identified multiple states and cities guilty of obstructing federal immigration enforcement.

Among the top offenders were New York, California, and Illinois.

The proposed suspension of international processing would directly affect such locales, potentially forcing them to confront the real costs of their defiance.

Reports indicate that the measure would go beyond affecting international passengers.

It would also freeze cargo operations at these airports, choking off economic activity that many sanctuary city governments rely on for revenue.

The administration’s thinking is clear.

If sanctuary city leaders want to play politics with immigration, they can also shoulder the burden that comes with their choices.

Secretary Mullin has floated similar ideas before, including the possibility of withdrawing Customs and Border Protection staff from airports that refuse to cooperate with federal directives.

Each time, the concept has sparked backlash from leftwing politicians and bureaucrats who call it extreme, while offering no alternative approach to the chaos their own policies have created.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, a former conservative congressman turned administration official, publicly expressed his concerns about the potential fallout.

“We have people from around the world and around the country that need to be able to fly into all different kinds of places,” Duffy said, voicing caution about broadly restricting travel.

“We shouldn’t shut down air travel in a state that doesn’t agree with our politics.”

Duffy’s view, while more measured, does not negate the broader frustration sweeping through the administration over sanctuary policies.

Thousands of federal agents face daily roadblocks from local politicians who refuse to honor detainers or share criminal data.

Mullin’s push represents an attempt to use federal leverage where local cooperation fails.

As of now, the plans remain in the development stage, and no final decision has been made.

However, the conversation itself has already reignited the national debate over border security and the federal government’s responsibility to enforce immigration law without obstruction.

Supporters of the measure argue that America’s immigration system has too long been undermined by Democrat cities prioritizing politics over public safety.

They say suspending international flights at non cooperating airports would finally force those leaders to face the consequences of sheltering illegal immigrants.

Critics on the left will call it punitive and “anti immigrant,” but the reality is simple. These cities have invited this clash by refusing to uphold the very laws they swore to honor.

With federal patience wearing thin, Homeland Security seems ready to remind sanctuary cities that sovereignty, national borders, and the rule of law still matter.
