El-Sayed is Gaining Strength and Stevens Is Sputtering Out

The establishment has been going all out to weaken Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan Democratic Senate primary.

They haven’t just been backing Haley Stevens with everything they have; they even forced Democratic Party candidate Mallory McMorrow out of the race to give Stevens a clearer path to victory by ensuring the anti-El-Sayed vote could coalesce around one strong candidate instead of being split between two.

Needless to say, it hasn’t worked. The latest poll numbers show that El-Sayed has been growing in strength and Stevens is slipping.

The primary isn’t weeks away, giving Stevens time to reset the race and perhaps get within striking distance; the voting has already begun, and the election week ends next Tuesday.

In other words, unless the poll numbers are catastrophically wrong, which is possible but unlikely at this point in the race since there are multiple pollsters showing roughly similar margins and polls tend to coalesce the closer to the date of the election, El-Sayed is going to win, and win handily.

It’s impossible to overstate just how overwhelming the effort to derail El-Sayed has been. Over $52 million has been spent during the primary by all the candidates, and the totals heavily favor Stevens due to outside money flooding in to stem the pro-El-Sayed tide. Almost $50 million has been spent to get Stevens over the line.

Democrats have had a hell of a time beating back the surge in DSA-backed candidates, although they did have one notable victory in Arizona in a race that few people were watching or cared about.

As I wrote earlier today, Francesca Hong looks like she is running away with the Wisconsin governor nomination for the Democrats this year, putting an explicitly socialist candidate on the ballot (should she win) in November, in one of the swingiest states in the nation.

El-Sayed says he is not a socialist, although his socialist supporters clearly think he is. His shtick is hating Jews more than defunding the police, and one more socialist more or less in the US Senate wouldn’t make much of a difference in any case. It would be awful, but in terms of voting, he will likely be no different than Rafael Warnock or Chuck Schumer. His main contribution to the national debate will be hating on Israel and increasing the number of votes to sever the link between Israel and the United States.

He can be the Senate’s Ilhan Omar. Joy. Let’s hope Mike Rogers kicks his butt, as seems likely.

El-Sayed, who is a Muslim and who likes to appear in radical Mosques and has associates close to the Muslim Brotherhood, certainly has a tendency to play into the stereotypes we all have about Islamists. He bragged about how he was going to put heads on pikes when he wins, and later clarified that he only meant to (metaphorically, one assumes) behead John Fetterman.

Nothing says commitment to reform like heads on pikes. Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed has attracted national attention with his violent rhetoric about “choking out” opponents and his campaigning with virulent anti-Semites like Hasan Piker. However, his comment about hoisting opponents’ heads like an “ogre on a pike” was raised during last night’s debate with Rep. Haley Stevens (D., MI.). He assured voters that he was really referring to the head of Sen. John Fetterman (D., PA.) in defending his remark. Somehow, alluding to the beheading of a staunch defender of Israel was presented as far more reasonable than mass beheadings. That is what passes for a moderate in this age of rage.

Previously, El-Sayed declared, “Ideally, you put one ogre on a pike, and then everyone else gets the message.” That comment was widely interpreted as referring to Stevens, and he was pushed to reaffirm it with Stevens standing right next to him on the stage. That was not a good look, and El-Sayed offered his pike pivot.

He insisted, “I was referring to a guy named John Fetterman,” who El-Sayed suggested was elected as a liberal candidate before “completely throwing those values in the mud.”

Let’s give the man the benefit of the doubt; the chances that he would carry a sword or a hatchet onto the floor of the United States Senate seem to be low to zero.

Still, you can see why Democrats are so desperate to stop El-Sayed from being placed on the November ballot. He is the candidate of Ann Arbor Michiganders, and hardly representative of the state as a whole.

Yet Democrats seem helpless to stop candidates like Francesca Hong and Abdul El-Sayed, just as they couldn’t take Graham Platner out. And if the DSA-backed candidates keep winning, establishment Democrats will lurch left to protect their own seats from prospective challengers within their own party.

Scott Rasmussen has correctly pointed out that support for socialism among Americans as a group has not increased, but it’s clear that it sure has in the Democratic Party electorate, or at least the ones who show up to the polls.

Editor’s Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
