You probably remember this attack which happened in Boulder last June. A group of mostly elderly Jewish people went into a city park to protest and demand the release of Jewish hostages taken by Hamas. A man later identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman showed up and attacked the group with Molotov cocktails.

The shocking violence unfolded at 1:26 p.m. local time, when Boulder police were called to the county courthouse on Pearl Street for reports of a man who had a weapon and was setting people on fire, according to Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn.

The attack took place near an event put on by “Run for Their Lives,” a grassroots group that organizes run and walk events calling for the release of Israeli hostages held since Oct. 7, 2023, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL)…

The suspect was heard yelling, “How many children you killed?” and “We have to end Zionists, they are killers,” according to an analysis of video of the scene by the ADL Center on Extremism.

Here’s an eyewitness account of what happened.

Definitely premeditated as it happened during the typical Sunday scheduled peaceful/silent walk holding Jewish hostage signs and Israeli flags. Walk has been happening every Sunday since 10/7/23.

Man shouted “You f*cking Zionists kill my people so I kill you!”

One elderly woman was so severely burned that her hair was charred and she wasn’t moving while others cared for her. Others were sitting/lying down in shock, some with their pants burned off, skin melted up their legs with their skin even split open and bleeding in some areas.

One of the victims did not survive the attack. Karen Diamond was 82-years-old and died from her injuries.

Karen Diamond was severely injured after the suspect, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, shouting “free Palestine” tossed Molotov cocktails at the group in what federal officials have called a “terrorist attack”.

The suspect told police after he was arrested that he wanted to “kill all Zionist people”, according to court documents…

She died as a result of “the severe injuries that she suffered in the attack”, the district attorney’s office said.

Today, Mohamed Sabry Soliman pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

One by one, they stood up in court and recalled the moment when Molotov cocktails exploded around them.

They described how they tried to beat out the flames that scorched their clothes and burned their friends. How, nearly a year later, they remain haunted by the smell of gasoline and burned hair.

On Thursday in Boulder, Colo., many survivors of the antisemitic firebombing attack there spoke publicly for the first time at a hearing in which the assailant pleaded guilty. The defendant, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, said he accepted responsibility for what he did, and a judge sentenced him to life in prison.

Mr. Soliman pleaded guilty to 101 charges, including one count of murder…

Karen Diamond’s family was not present today.

Karen Diamond’s family asked that Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty read a statement during the sentencing phase with victims’ impact statements because Diamond’s family said they could not face the emotional toll associated with seeing their mother’s murderer in court.

“Our only request is that the attacker never see his family again since he is responsible for us never seeing our mother again,” read Dougherty in court. The letter went on to describe the suffering that Karen Diamond had to endure while undergoing treatment for burns covering much of her body in the weeks leading up to her death, which her family described as “a living hell.”

Soliman got off easy. He effectively tortured an old woman to death to make a political statement, plus injuring several more elderly people in a pre-planned attack. There is zero doubt about his guilt in this case since it was caught on video (and he pleaded guilty). Sadly Colorado does not have the death penalty any longer so the taxpayers will be forced to pay for Soliman to live out the remaining decades of his life in prison.

Soliman still faces another 12 federal charges for hate crimes. That trial is set to begin next month.

As for never seeing his family again, that’s still a possibility. They were placed in ICE detention in Texas for 10 months after the attack. An FBI agent testified that they did not know in advance about the attack. Whether or not the family will eventually be removed from the US is still being fought over in the courts.
