For the first two years or so that I was aboard here at HotAir, things in Scotland were just a complete disaster…and absolutely terrific fodder for articles.
A tiny tyrant by the name of Nicola Sturgeon was the First Minister (their version of a prime minister). She was also head of the Scottish National Party (SNP) and one of the most ardent fans of every single agenda item on the World Economic Forum’s to-do list, never missing a chance to trot off to Davos and hobnob for head pats and more ideas. And with a majority government ensconced in the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood, she pretty well could.
One of the first pieces I did was on the SNP’s plans to transform Scotland into a 20-minute city Mecca. These plans were met with skepticism and pushback of varying degrees of ferociousness.
Because the majority fell in-line for the #plandemic it open the flood gates for more of the same.

Sturgeon also began banning the future sale of private gasoline-powered vehicles, transitioning local police department vehicles to electric (forgetting that they need chargers was an unfortunate oversight), selling off the highlands and the coastline to wind companies, empowering the trans lobby with legal victimhood status with rape survivors cast as ‘bigots’ – so many outrageous mandates and edicts came in such a fast and furious manner that wags rechristened the SNP the Scottish NIGHTMARE Party.
The thing Sturgeon wasn’t paying attention to turned out to be what brought her down. First, her husband was arrested for hanky panky in the party coffers, and then she was forced to resign in disgrace, or as close to disgrace as someone can come who has no shame.
You’ll probably remember her replacement.
Scotland votes for their new first minister today.
Humza Yousaf is the bookies favorite to win.
The first Pakistani minister, his wife tried suing a nursery for “racism”, and this is him telling Scotland they have too many white people.🤡👇 pic.twitter.com/NH6o9fVdgG

Humza Yousaf, white-people-hating First Minister of a country that is 96% white, only lasted until he decided to throw down with J.K. Rowling over his dystopian hate speech laws, another fine piece of legislation the SNP pushed through (although interesting enough, Yousaf had the official transcript of the above ‘Scotland is too damn white’ speech changed).
In May of ’24, another SNP operative named John Swinney took over for the snarling Scottish Palestinian sympathizer as Scottish voters pummelled the party in the United Kingdom-wide electoral wipeout that handed 10 Downing Street to Keir Starmer. SNP still had the First Minister’s chair, but it no longer had a veto-proof majority and was having to mitigate many of its whackier and crueler inclinations.
That doesn’t mean it stopped them from leftist performance theatre, though. In September of 2025, Swinney had the Scottish national flag, the Saltire (white St. Andrews cross emblazoned on a blue background), lowered over St Andrew’s House, the Scottish government headquarters, so he could raise the Palestinian one.
Now, keep in mind the SNP has had a veritable chokehold on the country for almost two decades, and, after all their misdeeds and the abuse they heap upon the Scottish people, they still maintained power two years ago, although at a reduced threshold.
The SNP has been in government for 6,920 days. If Scotland is unlucky enough to be stuck with them for another 5 years, the first 100 days won’t look very different to the thousands that went before. https://t.co/Ix79eYpIgf

They want the whole haggis back. Swinney and the SNP have set their sights on regaining an impregnable majority in the elections on 7 May.
I happened to stumble across the party’s X feed, which is hard at work wooing voters to achieve that end.
It is literally like an Oprah car giveaway. You get one, and you and YOU, too, and it’s all FREE!
Apprentices get money!
A re-elected SNP government will deliver 150,000 apprenticeships over the next Parliament and introduce an Apprenticeship Accelerator Grant to help young people build skills, confidence and a real path into work.

And we’re only in the ‘A’s’ of the alphabet. What’s next?
I did not have ‘government helps towns buy sports teams‘ on my bingo card!
A re-elected SNP government will extend the Fan Bank to 2031, helping more communities buy a share in or take control of their local sports club and put supporters closer to the heart of the game.

And FREE SCOTLAND!
Don’t get all Braveheart excited. They don’t mean free it from the SNP.
They mean from England.

Now, you knew there had to be a catch or two, as there always is with progressives, and so there is.
They want to welcome more unassimilated, white people haters, for one thing.
Scotland has more migrants than at any time in history, with around a tenth of the population being born outside the United Kingdom, per the last census. Edinburgh (the capital) and Glasgow (the biggest city) are around one-fifth minority ethnic.
It’s not enough for the SNP. https://t.co/MzfcM5PlKv

Which has even the folks who have settled in quite nicely saying, ‘The place is a dump, and I am outta here.‘

The prospect of the SNP gaining and holding complete power over immigration to the tiny country is described as ‘terrifying.’
…Scots would be “terrified” if the SNP secured full control over immigration, it has been claimed, as the party were forced to deny it advocated for “unlimited” migration in Scotland. The issue has become one of the most important among voters heading into the election, despite being reserved to Westminster.
Contrary to what the SNP is insisting, many people in Scotland feel they’ve enough foreigners, thank you, and are tired of having the ‘asylum seeker capital of the UK’ in their part of the isles.
…The impact of immigration has been seen in the likes of Glasgow where an influx of asylum seekers has been blamed for a housing crisis and £66m being spent on temporary accommodation. It is the asylum seeker capital of the UK and is Scotland’s only sanctuary cities for refugees.
Some within the SNP have advocated for no limits on bringing in immigrants, including illegal ones who arrive in the UK on small boats. John Swinney and other leading figures have tried to avoid discussing the problem, and even u-turned on a previous Scottish Government policy to ask Westminster to devolve responsibility of it to Holyrood.
A certain memorable photo from this past fall is starting to make the rounds again, urging people to steer clear of SNP and why.
Only Reform wants to close loop holes that let asylum seekers get all the homes in Scotland. SNP and Labour want more migrants. Vote for Reform and put scots young people’s future first. pic.twitter.com/Apl9gZRgvg

Even if everything is ‘FREE!‘ there is still a price attached, and with the SNP in full control, that would appear to be another chunk of what little remains of Scottish freedom.
Then there’s the reality.
It remains to be seen if a damn near twenty-year-long habit of voting for the SNP can be broken or if Scotland will continue to suffer their own sad version of self-destructive Stockholm Syndrome.
