GOP Lawmaker Accused Of Torrid Affair With Staffer Getting A Visit From The Boss

Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters Tuesday morning that he plans to meet with Texas Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales amid calls for his resignation.

“I’ll talk to Tony today,” he said, according to Politico reporter Meredith Lee Hill.

Johnson told reporters Monday he doesn’t think “it’s time” to call for Gonzales to step down, ABC News reported.

“I think we have to wait for more of the facts to come out,” he told reporters.

Gonzales is accused of having an affair with his former district staffer, Regina Santos-Aviles, who committed suicide by setting herself on fire Sept. 14, 2025.

The San Antonio Express-News obtained alleged text messages between Gonzales and Santos-Aviles from May 2024, where he requested a “sexy pic” and asked about her “favorite” sexual position.

“This is going too far boss,” Santos-Aviles allegedly replied.

The texts were provided to the Express-News by Adrian Aviles, her widower.

Multiple Republican congressional members have called for Gonzales’ resignation, including South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace, Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, Colorado Rep. Mace posted a long-form tweet on X Monday, saying, “Texans deserve a congressman who does not prey on women.”

These text messages are disgusting and inexcusable. A Member of Congress. Harassing his own staffer in the middle of the night. Asking for explicit photos. Pressing her on sexual positions. Regina Santos-Aviles told him he was going too far. He did not care. He kept going.

“No one is held accountable here in Congress,” she stated.

“Both sides protect each other,” Mace added.

The Caller reached out to Johnson’s office for comment but did not receive a response prior to publication.
