Hulk Hogan described extensive use of pain medication during the later years of his wrestling career, according to statements he made in a Netflix docuseries released after his death in July 2025, as reported by TMZ.

The wrestling figure spoke about his physical condition and treatment while appearing in Hulk Hogan: Real American, which featured what was described as his final interview prior to his death from a heart attack.

In the series, Hogan discussed his time with Total Nonstop Wrestling, also known as TNA, and the challenges he faced after his 2009 divorce from Linda Hogan.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Hogan said he joined TNA after the divorce, explaining that he had given “everything” during the separation and needed to continue working. However, he indicated that his physical condition at the time limited his ability to perform at the level required under his contract.

According to his account, he turned to pain medication to manage ongoing physical issues. Hogan described the amounts he was taking and the manner in which the medication was administered.

“I was taking 80-milligram fentanyls, two in the morning, stuffing them under my gums here … I had two 300mg patches of fentanyl on my legs, and they gave me six 1500mg fentanyl lollipops to eat,” Hogan said.

He said a pharmacist reacted to the dosage.

Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin USA – August 7th, 2024: Hulk Hogan WWE professional wrestler met with his fans while promoting his Real American Beer inside a local Walmart.

“I went to the pharmacy, he goes, ‘You should be dead. We have never seen a human being take this much fentanyl,'” Hogan said.

Hogan also described the extent of his physical pain during that period. He said the discomfort affected his ability to rest and carry out normal activities.

“If I just twitched my finger like that, my whole back would spasm and torque,” he said, adding that he had to sleep in a chair due to the severity of the pain.

His last in-ring appearance took place in 2012. He remained with TNA until his contract expired in 2013.

Hogan’s career spanned decades in professional wrestling, and he was considered a central figure in the industry’s growth during the late 20th century. His time with TNA came after his tenure with WWE and other organizations.
