Mamdani and Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)-backed candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier angrily walked out of a radio interview Tuesday after hosts asked about several controversial posts of hers from the past.

Spanish-language station La Mega interviewed the candidate Tuesday just hours before she won her race with over 49 percent of the vote, unseating New York Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat in New York’s 13th Congressional District. Chevalier refused to answer the hosts’ questions about her previous comments on social media.

A deleted post of Chevalier’s expressed the candidate’s dislike of the Dominican flag, although her parents are both immigrants from the Dominican Republic.

“[T]his f*cking nationalism is why I don’t be putting that flag in my bio that shit is violent and there is nothing good that can come of it,” the socialist posted, referring to the absence of a Dominican flag in her social media profile.

Chevalier’s comment caused Dominican-Americans in her district to criticize the candidate for her hesitancy to represent Dominican culture. (RELATED: Soft-On-Crime Socialist Set To Run Nation’s Capital Ravaged By Teen Takeovers)

One of the La Mega hosts asked Chevalier to “address the Dominican community that may feel bad for the things she has said in the past.”

Chevalier said she felt bad about many of her social media posts in general, but stated her district needed to “fight for the things that are necessary for the community.”

A second host asked her to address the Dominican flag post in particular. Chevalier again redirected, saying she wanted to focus on the “issues that are impacting the residents of New York 13.”

When the host continued to press her for a comment, Chevalier interrupted. “I am not going to sit here and be yelled at by various people,” she said.

Chevalier stood up, said, “Have a beautiful day,” and took off her headphones, leaving the studio.

Along with her post on the Dominican flag, Chevalier has received criticism for inflammatory comments calling for the abolition of police and prisons and opposing U.S. institutions.

Chevalier asked during her candidacy that focus be taken away from her previous comments and instead be put on the policy issues at hand.

The democratic socialist apologized for a comment she had made previously, where she said, “F*ck Kamala Harris,” after the former vice president told Guatemalan immigrants in 2021 not to immigrate illegally.

But Chevalier continues to defend her position on deportations, saying all are wrong and that deporting an illegal immigrant after they have committed a crime is the same as “double jeopardy.”

Chevalier will go on to the general election in November, where she will likely win a seat in Congress.
