A 24-year-old Florida woman was arrested after police said she drove her Ford Bronco into a parked vehicle in Daytona Beach, then became involved in a confrontation with the vehicle’s owner, as reported by The New York Post.

Elizabeth Boucher was arrested following the Aug. 30 crash and faces several charges, including DUI and battery.

According to the Daytona Beach Police Department and an arrest affidavit, officers responded to the crash after receiving reports about the incident.

Police said Boucher was driving through a roundabout when her Bronco struck a parked Honda outside a residence.

Home security footage released by police showed the Bronco pushing the smaller vehicle across the front lawn after the collision.

The owner of the Honda was not inside the vehicle when it was struck. According to the affidavit, a neighbor alerted the woman to what had happened, prompting her to come outside.

The situation then escalated.

The woman told police that Boucher approached her during the confrontation and struck her. The two women became involved in a physical altercation before the incident ended and police took control of the scene.

According to the affidavit, Boucher then followed the woman toward her home before officers arrived.

When police encountered Boucher, officers said she displayed multiple signs that led them to suspect she was intoxicated. Investigators reported that she had difficulty standing and was swaying.

Boucher also allegedly had trouble producing her driver’s license. When an officer requested the license, she instead handed over a passport. After being asked again, she reportedly handed the officer her purse.

According to the affidavit, Boucher then said “she was hot” while attempting to get into a police vehicle.

Police also said Boucher told officers she was “never going to get pulled over again.”

Officers reportedly explained that she had not been pulled over and that she was actually being investigated in connection with a crash.

Boucher allegedly appeared surprised by that information.

When asked about what had happened, Boucher gave officers an uncertain account of the crash.

“I guess I hit the front right of their car,” Boucher told an officer. “But I don’t know what really happened.”

An officer disputed that description, telling her, “You didn’t just hit the front of the car, you took the car completely off.”

During the encounter, Boucher also pleaded with officers not to take her to jail.

“Please don’t take me to jail over this,” Boucher cried. “I thought we were all friends.”

Police ultimately informed Boucher that they believed she was under the influence and was not in condition to drive.

Officers asked Boucher whether she would “submit to a sobriety exercise.” According to police, she refused and attempted to walk away.

Officers then placed her in handcuffs. Police said Boucher continued refusing DUI testing, including providing a breath sample.

During the arrest, Boucher also told officers she was a mother and said she needed to make sure her daughter had what she needed.

“I’m not resisting arrest; I just wanna make sure my daughter gets what she needs,” Boucher said, according to the video.

The Daytona Beach Police Department released video connected to the arrest, including footage from the crash and the interaction between Boucher and officers.

Boucher was charged with resisting arrest without violence, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, touch or strike, refusal to submit to DUI testing, DUI, and DUI damage to property.

Law&Crime reported that the charges included DUI with property damage, resisting an officer without violence, battery, and possession of a Schedule II substance.

Boucher was booked into jail and released Aug. 31, according to the information provided in the case.

She is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21.

The allegations against Boucher remain allegations unless and until established in court.

The case illustrates how a suspected impaired-driving investigation can quickly expand beyond a traffic-related incident when police allege that a crash is followed by a confrontation and refusal to cooperate with officers.
