U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) saved a 14-year-old after the teen jumped out of a moving vehicle in Texas.

On July 2, ICE law enforcement officer Javier Moralez of the Harlingen-Corpus Christi Sub-Office was traveling on Interstate 37 when he spotted two vehicles stopped along the roadside and an individual lying face down in a ditch, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller.

Moralez immediately pulled over to assist, providing lifesaving medical care while ensuring emergency responders were dispatched. He directed bystanders to stabilize the victim’s head and neck and assessed the victim’s airway and breathing in preparation to administer CPR if it became necessary. The 14-year-old victim was breathing but unresponsive. Witnesses claimed that the victim had jumped from a moving vehicle that had been traveling at an estimated speed of between 50 and 70 miles per hour.

Personnel from the Corpus Christi Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, and the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office arrived and assumed medical care, transporting the victim for further treatment.

Officer Moralez provided a briefing to the responding deputy and cleared the scene without further incident.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis praised Moralez for his quick response, writing to the Caller, “This ICE officer didn’t hesitate when he saw someone lying unconscious on the side of the road. He immediately pulled over and rendered lifesaving medical care to the 14-year-old until emergency services arrived.” (RELATED: ICE Deports Illegal Alien Child Rapist Previously Pardoned By Gov Tim Walz)

Bis went on to commend ICE personnel more broadly, calling them “the best of the best.”

“The men and women of ICE truly are the best of the best, fighting every day to protect the American people despite the smears and attacks they face from sanctuary politicians and media outlets,” she added.

Moralez’s actions are the latest in a series of recent incidents in which ICE officers have provided lifesaving assistance while off duty or during the course of their work.

In June, ICE officers in Milwaukee rescued a woman trapped inside her overturned vehicle after a driver ran a red light and caused a crash, according to a DHS press release.

In March, an ICE officer assisting Transportation Security Administration (TSA) operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport used the Heimlich maneuver to save a 1-year-old who was choking during a medical emergency, according to DHS.

In February, off-duty ICE law enforcement agents revived an unresponsive 4-year-old who had drowned in a hotel swimming pool by performing Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until emergency responders arrived.
