Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) faced backlash on social media Monday after a resurfaced video showed her mistakenly referring to World War II as “World War Eleven” during remarks earlier this year.

The clip, dated Jan. 22, 2025, shows Omar standing alongside other congressional Democrats while calling for the repeal of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.

The law was recently invoked by President Trump to expedite the deportation of suspected Venezuelan gang members who are in the United States illegally.

During her remarks, Omar read from prepared notes and said, “The last time the Alien Enemies Act was invoked, it was used to detain and deport German, Japanese, Italian immigrants during World War Eleven.”

Moments later, Omar realized the error and corrected herself.

“Oh … two … sorry,” she said, followed by a brief laugh.

The video circulated widely on X, where multiple users reacted to the misstatement.

The account Libs of TikTok posted the clip along with the comment, “I can’t believe this dummy is in Congress.”

Another reaction came from Sarah Sizzle, who wrote, “She learned history at the Quality Learing Center,” referencing a Minnesota day care center that was previously involved in a fraud scandal.

Conservative columnist Ed Morrissey also responded to the video, writing, “Was this for real? I thought it might be AI.”

In a separate post, another user shared an AI-generated image of a New York Times front page that referenced “World War Eleven” and suggested President Trump had started it.

Other users continued to weigh in on the clip. One person wrote that Omar appeared to have “a case of the Biden’s” that day.

Another post read, “This is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the stupidist generation of politicians the world has witnessed.”

The resurfaced video renewed attention on Omar’s comments as critics pointed to the mistake and her reaction in the moment.

President Trump has previously criticized Omar in public statements.

In a Truth Social post earlier this year, he referred to her as “Low IQ Ilhan Omar.”

The Alien Enemies Act, first passed in 1798, allows the federal government to detain or deport nationals of enemy countries during times of war.

The statute has been used in past conflicts, including World War II, when it was applied to individuals from nations aligned with Axis powers.

Omar’s Jan. 22 remarks focused on opposing the use of that law, particularly in connection with recent enforcement actions targeting individuals suspected of ties to Venezuelan criminal organizations.

The video of her remarks, however, drew renewed attention online due to the verbal misstatement, which was quickly corrected but continued to circulate after being clipped and shared across social media platforms.
