Iran’s Terrorist Regime Publicly Backs Dems in the Midterms

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has published a 25-page letter addressed to Americans, urging them to oppose President Donald Trump in the upcoming midterm elections.

The propaganda campaign places the Iranian security force squarely in the middle of another US political contest, as reported by The New York Post.

The IRGC has repeatedly tried to sway the Nov. 3 US elections. In its latest effort, the group claimed Trump and his support for Israel caused the war, while urging voters to reject both at the voting booth.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi attacked Trump in starkly personal terms. “America’s national security and the lives of its service members are entrusted to someone who is not only an inveterate liar but is also an insanely avaricious man whose only motivation in life is the accumulation of greater wealth,” Mohebbi said.

The letter also accused Trump of concealing what it called the “peaceful nature” of Iran’s nuclear program. That claim comes despite allegations from the International Atomic Energy Agency watchdog that Tehran was enriching uranium beyond the level needed for a power plant.

The US and Israel have defended the war in Iran primarily as an effort to prevent the Islamic republic from obtaining nuclear weapons. The IRGC’s letter instead sought to place blame for the conflict on Trump and his backing of Israel.

The Iranian security force also complained about the US government designating it as a terrorist group. The letter claimed there was not “a single verifiable instance where the IRGC has committed an act of violence against civilians.”

That assertion comes as the Iranian regime stands accused of killing between 7,000 and 30,000 protesters in January during a brutal crackdown on dissent. The regime has defended its conduct by claiming that foreign actors instigated the violence.

The letter then turned to the American economy, claiming the war was causing severe damage through high fuel prices tied to fighting in the Middle East.

“The US economy is on the precipice of collapse, and yet he keeps on telling Americans that the economy is booming and the prices will soon start coming down,” the letter read.

“This is, perhaps, his biggest lie,” the letter said of Trump. “Soon, the dam will break, and the economy will implode, causing, unfortunately, great pain for Americans for many, many years.”

The IRGC has long maintained that it can inflict enough economic harm on the US to force Washington to concede. At the same time, Iran has been enduring massive economic strain under Trump’s Operation Economic Outcast.

Iran is currently experiencing a trade free fall under the US blockade. Its rial currency plummeted to historic lows this week, even as the regime’s propaganda letter warned American voters that their own economy faced collapse.

Mohebbi also attempted to refute claims that Iran has lost control of the Strait of Hormuz. Oil is currently flowing through the strategic waterway at about half the level recorded before the war began.

“The fact that the Americans might manage, at great expense, considerable trouble and high risk to sneak a small vessel through the Strait of Hormuz under cover of darkness to export, say, 100 or 200 barrels of oil does not mean the Strait is open,” Mohebbi claimed.

Data cited from maritime tracker Kpler presented a much larger flow through the strait. More than 7 million barrels are leaving the Strait of Hormuz each day, while the Persian Gulf’s total crude exports have reached 72% of prewar levels.
