Jacob Misiorowski Fires a 105.5 MPH Fastball Against Cubs to Break His Own Record

Milwaukee Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski unleashed a first-inning fastball Friday against Chicago Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong that registered 105.5 mph. The pitch broke his own record for the fastest by a starting pitcher in the pitch tracking era, which dates back to 2008.

That velocity tied for the third-fastest pitch ever recorded, trailing only two from longtime reliever Aroldis Chapman at 105.8 mph in 2010 and 105.7 mph in 2016, and matching Ben Joyce’s 105.5 mph in 2024. Misiorowski commented on the pitch after the Brewers’ 6-2 win, saying, “It’s cool. I think I slipped a little bit on that pitch. My front foot slid out from under me.”

The 24-year-old right-hander opened the game with a 103.1 mph fastball, followed by one at 104.3 mph before reaching 105.5 mph on the next pitch. Crow-Armstrong fouled that fastball before striking out three pitches later. Misiorowski went six innings, surrendering a solo home run to Cubs designated hitter Seiya Suzuki — his first allowed in 75⅓ innings.

Over those six innings, the Cubs drew four walks and extended at-bats, raising his pitch count. Misiorowski threw a season-high 107 pitches, finishing his outing by striking out Cubs left fielder Ian Happ with a 102.8 mph fastball with the bases loaded. He described Chicago’s strategy in the at-bats, saying, “They had a game plan coming in to battle me and foul s— off. They stuck with it. More power to them.”

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell helped erase a 1-0 deficit with a two-run home run. From that point forward, Milwaukee never gave up the lead and scored all six of its runs in the sixth inning and beyond.

When asked about Misiorowski’s first-inning velocity, Mitchell admitted he was nearly speechless. “I have nothing else to say about it,” he said with a smile. “It’s impressive. It feels like every time he goes out there, he’s breaking a record of some sort.”

The 105.5 mph fastball surpassed Misiorowski’s own record for a starting pitcher set on June 12, when he threw a 104.5 mph pitch to Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber. Brewers manager Pat Murphy smiled when asked about it and commented, “Where does it stop? I think there’s a limit there.”

Misiorowski was asked if he thought he could reach 106 mph. He replied, “I definitely think it’s possible. Science says you can hit 108. Someone eventually is going to hit it. If that’s me, cool. I don’t think that’s something I need to focus on. Speed is cool, but if it doesn’t win a ball game, it doesn’t matter.”

The right-hander entered the game with a 1.45 ERA, which ranks as the third lowest by a pitcher through his first 16 starts of a season over the past 50 years. He trails only Trevor Rogers, who had a 1.43 ERA last season, and Nolan Ryan, who posted a 1.29 ERA in 1981. On Friday, Misiorowski recorded eight strikeouts while matching his season high with four walks.

“I sprayed a little bit,” Misiorowski admitted following the game. “There’s always something to work on between starts.”

As the Brewers continued their strong offensive finish, Misiorowski’s high-velocity performance and control challenges stood out in front of a home crowd that watched history in real time. The 105.5 mph fastball marked another entry in his record-setting pace, a feat that even drew a smirk from his manager and awe from his teammates.

While some of Chicago’s hitters forced long counts and contributed to his season-high pitch total, Milwaukee’s late surge ensured that Misiorowski’s latest record-setting outing also produced a victory. Each of his final pitches kept climbing over 100 mph, culminating with a strikeout that ended his night on a 102.8 mph note.

After six innings that featured both dominance and endurance, the Brewers right-hander reflected on maintaining composure and power deep into games. His combination of strikeouts, velocity milestones, and command struggles defined another remarkable performance in Milwaukee’s win.

Mitchell’s home run and the Brewers’ six late runs provided the offensive support, sealing a game highlighted by Misiorowski’s velocity milestones. The right-hander’s record pitch against Crow-Armstrong, his 107-pitch outing, and the six-inning performance composed the foundation of Milwaukee’s 6-2 result.

Every pitch over 100 mph underscored the historic speed Misiorowski reached in this outing. His appearance against Chicago reinforced the raw numbers that have surrounded his starts and broke another barrier for velocity by a starting pitcher.

As the Brewers moved forward from the win, the game left behind a collection of confirmed facts: 105.5 mph as the new mark for a starter, a six-inning effort with eight strikeouts, and Milwaukee’s comeback beginning with Mitchell’s two-run homer. For Misiorowski, that combination secured his latest record while keeping the Brewers ahead through the final outs.
