JD Vance Already Has A ‘Huge Advantage’ Over The Other Candidates For 2028 – Halperin [WATCH]

Political analyst Mark Halperin discussed Vice President-elect JD Vance’s media strategy on Tuesday, asserting that Vance’s widespread media appearances offer him a significant advantage over other potential 2028 presidential candidates.

Halperin highlighted Vance’s ability to connect with voters through interviews on a range of platforms, including CNN, CBS News, NBC News, the New York Times podcast, and podcasts hosted by comedians Theo Von and Joe Rogan.

Amid a sea of supporters, vice-presidential nominee JD Vance takes the stage during a rally at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids on Saturday, July 20, 2024.

Halperin, speaking on “The Morning Meeting,” emphasized the impact of these media interactions, suggesting that they set Vance apart from other contenders.

“I think one of the smartest things JD Vance could do to consolidate his position … is to go on those shows regularly,” Halperin said. “He can develop personal relationships with those people, and people in the media, contrary to popular perception, are human beings.”

The analyst further noted that Vance’s willingness to participate in various types of interviews, including those outside the traditional political sphere, makes him a more approachable figure compared to other politicians. “If the vice president of the United States is stopping by your podcast every month and giving you time, you’re gonna be favorably disposed towards that person,” Halperin added.

Halperin contrasted Vance’s approach with that of Kamala Harris, who has avoided more unconventional platforms such as Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Halperin pointed out that Vance has appeared on both traditional and alternative media outlets, while Harris has been criticized for her more limited outreach. “Unlike Kamala Harris, I don’t think there’s a show in America JD Vance would turn down by saying, ‘You know, I can’t do it,’ or, ‘I’m worried about the reception I’d get.’ That’s a huge advantage for him,” Halperin continued.

Halperin also noted that Vance’s media strategy could work to his benefit in a future presidential race.

He mentioned that other potential candidates, including Democratic Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, have also been willing to engage with diverse media, but their performance has often been lackluster compared to Vance’s visibility.

This commentary comes amidst ongoing speculation about the future of the Republican Party, including potential contenders for the 2028 presidential election.

Halperin acknowledged the growing discussion about Donald Trump Jr. possibly running for president, with some pundits suggesting he could inherit his father’s political movement.

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza also weighed in on the possibility, arguing that Trump Jr.’s political understanding and strong presence on social media make him a formidable candidate.

“I just think there will be an attempt at some point to hand off Trumpism, and Donald Trump will want to be in control of that handoff,” Cillizza said.

“The fact that his eldest son is standing right there, is someone who has shown that he gets the MAGA base in a way very few Republicans do, who has shown that he, in his own right, is extremely popular online, who gets the kind of social media trolling that goes hand in hand with being a Trump supporter, that he is related by blood to Donald Trump — these are all things that I think you cannot rule out Don Jr. of running in 2028.”

The speculation about Trump Jr.’s future in politics, alongside Vance’s growing prominence, reflects the ongoing shifts within the Republican Party as it looks to the future.

With Vance’s visibility through media appearances and Trump Jr.’s potential candidacy, the field for the 2028 election is beginning to take shape.
