Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Charged With First-Degree Murder of His Wife

William Stevenson, the former husband of Jill Biden, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife at their Delaware home, authorities confirmed this week, as reported by The New York Post.

Stevenson, 77, was arrested Monday following a weeks-long investigation into the December death of his current spouse, Linda Stevenson, 64. According to Fox 29, the incident occurred at the couple’s residence in Oak Hill, Delaware.

Police responded to a domestic dispute call on Dec. 28. When officers arrived at the home, they found Linda Stevenson unresponsive on the floor.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not publicly released the cause of death.

Following the investigation, William Stevenson was formally charged with first-degree murder. He is being held on $500,000 bail, according to court records cited in the report.

Stevenson is a longtime business owner in Newark, Delaware, and owns The Stone Balloon, a well-known college bar located near the University of Delaware.

The arrest has drawn public attention due to his past marriage to Jill Biden, the wife of former President Joe Biden.

Jill Biden, 74, was married to Stevenson from 1970 until their divorce in 1975. The marriage lasted five years. Two years after the divorce, she married Joe Biden, who at the time was serving as a U.S. senator from Delaware.

Stevenson has previously made public claims regarding the circumstances surrounding the end of his marriage. He has alleged that Jill Biden had an affair with Joe Biden prior to their divorce.

According to Stevenson, he and Jill both worked on Joe Biden’s first U.S. Senate campaign in 1972 and grew close to the future senator during that period.

That same year, Joe Biden’s first wife, Neilia Biden, and the couple’s infant daughter were killed in a car crash, a tragedy that left Biden a widower. Stevenson has said he began suspecting an affair between Joe and Jill Biden in 1974.

Joe and Jill Biden have long disputed that account, stating they first met after being set up on a date in 1975, following Biden’s loss and Jill’s separation from Stevenson.

Authorities have not indicated whether Stevenson’s past personal history played any role in the investigation into Linda Stevenson’s death.

Court documents and police statements have focused solely on the events of Dec. 28 and the evidence gathered afterward.

The case remains active as prosecutors prepare for upcoming court proceedings. No trial date has yet been announced, and Stevenson has not entered a public plea to the charges.
