White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump will remain the final authority on immigration policy decisions and made clear that the administration will not retreat from enforcing federal immigration laws or prioritizing public safety.

Leavitt emphasized that any policy discussions involving immigration will ultimately rest with the President, while reaffirming his long-standing support for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.

“President Trump will be the ultimate decider of any policy changes on anything, especially with respect to immigration enforcement,” Leavitt said.

She said the President’s position on immigration enforcement has remained consistent and firm, particularly when it comes to public safety and the rule of law.

“What I will tell you is the President is never going to waiver in enforcing our nation’s immigration laws and protecting the public safety of the American people in his ardent support of ICE and Customs and Border Patrol,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt criticized Democratic leaders for what she described as rhetoric aimed at demonizing federal immigration authorities, contrasting it with past Democratic administrations.

“Who, unfortunately, Democrat Party has made a decision to demonize,” Leavitt said.

“I heard Senator Schumer referring to them as Donald Trump’s Nazi secret police force. I believe were his words.”

She said such language was absent during the Obama administration, even as deportations were carried out by the same agencies and personnel.

“I don’t recall that same language being used when President Obama was in the White House and was deporting millions of illegal aliens from our country using this very same agency, and these very same agents who, by the way, have jobs because of the laws that were passed by Congress,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt noted that while Congress may engage in policy discussions, the President will make the final determinations.

She pointed to recent announcements by Department of Homeland Security leadership regarding new measures on the ground.

“So as for policy discussions that will take place, Congress will have those the President will decide on those,” she said.

“You saw yesterday. Secretary Noem announced that DHS agents on the ground in Minnesota will begin using and wearing body cams.”

She said DHS is evaluating the possibility of expanding the body camera program nationwide, contingent on funding.

“That’s something DHS is looking to roll out nationwide, assuming they have the funding for it,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt also highlighted ongoing engagement between federal officials and state and local leaders in Minnesota, describing continued dialogue aimed at advancing enforcement efforts.

“I know Tom Homan has been on the ground in Minnesota. He’s there again today for direct dialog with state and local officials to move these conversations forward as well,” she said.

She added that additional updates are expected soon from administration officials.

“I think you’ll be hearing more from Mr. Homan tomorrow on some of the progress that has been made,” Leavitt said.

Leavitt concluded by stating that while the administration is open to discussion, it will not compromise on immigration enforcement or its broader mandate from voters.

“So look, we’re willing, obviously, to have this dialog and to talk and to listen, but we are not going to concede and enforcing our nation’s immigration laws and delivering on the mandate the President was given by nearly 80 million Americans to deport illegal alien criminals from our country,” she said.
