Kevin Sorbo has firmly shut the door on California, making it clear that a return to the state is not part of his plans, as reported by Page Six.

Nearly seven years after relocating from the Golden State to Florida, the “Hercules” star pointed to three factors behind his decision to stay away: “Taxes, traffic and negativity.”

During an interview with Fox News Digital, Sorbo discussed how life in Florida has offered him something he felt was becoming harder to find in California. That quality, he said, is “acceptance.”

The actor acknowledged that there are still parts of his former California life that he misses. Those include Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, his golf course, his old house and the state’s famously mild weather.

However, Sorbo said those attractions are not enough to outweigh the reasons he left. He contrasted California with Florida, where the weather brings its own challenges and rewards.

“I mean, here in Florida, yeah, we get five months of pretty high humidity. It’s pretty hot, but the winters here are really quite amazing,” Sorbo said.

“But yeah, there are things I miss, but they can keep their taxes, they can keep their traffic, and they can keep their negativity, I’m done.”

For Sorbo, leaving California involved more than simply changing his surroundings.

He said the independent film community has welcomed him, while filmmakers and creators from around the country have contacted him through his production company, Sorbo Studios.

“The people I’ve met here, the contacts I’ve met, it’s been incredible,” he said.

Sorbo also criticized the entertainment industry, saying he believes people have been punished for expressing certain political or religious positions. The actor has remained outspoken about both his faith and his politics.

He compared Hollywood’s treatment of conservatives and Christians to behavior more commonly associated with schoolchildren than a multimillion dollar industry.

Sorbo described the conduct in particularly blunt terms.

“That’s why I find a lot of things in Hollywood, with their blacklisting people that have conservative or Christian viewpoints, I find it like they’re seventh grade mean girls,” Sorbo told Fox News Digital.

“It’s just ridiculous and childish to me. We all have different opinions. There’s nothing wrong with that.”

Sorbo has previously described himself as someone who has been “canceled” because of his views. Even so, he said that experience has not persuaded him to remain silent.

Instead, Sorbo called on other conservatives working in Hollywood to stop concealing their positions. He said some have stayed quiet after watching what happened to him.

“It’s the conservatives that are in the closet now because they saw me get canceled,” Sorbo said. “But I’m still working.”

His remarks came as his latest movie, “Elijah Peel,” arrived in theaters. The faith based drama is inspired by a true story, and Sorbo portrays the central musician’s longtime talent manager.

The movie follows a rock star whose rapid career and battle with addiction spiral after a near fatal heart attack. A young girl’s faith ultimately pushes him to confront the life he has been living.

Willie and Korie Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” are executive producers on the project. Their involvement adds another prominent Christian entertainment connection to the film.

Sorbo believes projects such as “Elijah Peel” show that faith based filmmakers no longer require Hollywood’s approval. He said 80 million homes in America want the type of movies he has been fortunate to join, and he expects that audience to continue growing.

Outside his work, Sorbo said his marriage and family have remained his highest priorities through career changes, health scares and the difficulties of Hollywood life. He has spent nearly three decades married to his wife, Sam.

When asked about the foundation of their marriage, Sorbo answered with a joke. “Oh, that’s easy. I just say yes to her all the time. I just agree with everything she tells me.”

He also acknowledged that the couple does not always agree. “We have our disagreements, but we’ve always gone through those with no problem. And we’ve overcome those things.”

Sorbo emphasized that family continues to come first, noting the ages of his children. “My boys are now 24 and 22, my daughter’s 20.”

Sorbo and his wife are also outspoken supporters of homeschooling. Sam travels around the country to discuss what they see as the advantages of educating children outside the traditional public school system.

“We never experienced terrible teens with my kids. We just didn’t. They’re hardworking, they’re awesome, and they’re just good people,” Sorbo said.
