For most of us, the Fourth of July means fireworks. Barbecuing with family and friends. Maybe wearing red, white, and blue.
For a contingent of liberals, America’s Independence Day is the perfect opportunity to stage yet another impotent, anti-Trump protest. (RELATED: Libs Throw Temper Tantrum For Status Quo)
“This July 4th weekend, while the U.S. marks Independence Day, we’ll gather across the country—on porches, in town squares, backyards, and streets—to stand for real freedom and build a vision of a Free America brick by brick,” reads one (now canceled) event description from the Women’s March website. “Free America is wherever we are. Free America is whatever we make it.”

In that case, it would appear “Free America” means nothing at all. That’s a remarkably honest admission from the Women’s March, which apparently kept the name for their brand, despite redubbing their chief protest the “People’s March.” Because what is a woman, anyway? And what is freedom? The left’s answer is the same: “Whatever definition suits our particular political argument.”
Protesters have a variety of options to express their righteous indignation. They could host a block party, the Women’s March website suggests, providing “hot dogs and veggie burgers.” They could “occupy space joyfully—with dancing, costumes, music, food, and conversation.” There’s nothing quite like diverse bodies occupying space, joyfully. Leftists have developed a distinctive accent in the past ten or so years. It’s one that favors euphemism and winding construction. It functions, like all accents, as an in-group signal. Someone who says “brown bodies” or “complex web of factors” is a friend. Someone who says “Hispanics” or “variables” may not be.
“The dream of American freedom belongs to all of us, and we will not stop in our pursuit of its promise, now or ever,” the Women’s March maintains. That’s great. Why can’t illegal migrants pursue that dream in their own country, then? (RELATED: America’s Migrant Crisis Summed Up In One Preventable Tragedy)
There are 280 events planned, according to The Women’s March’s website, and 5,989 attendees registered. That marks a sharp decline in interest as compared to June’s “No Kings” protests. There were 820 planned protest locations for that event, according to The Guardian, which cites turnout estimates between 4 million and 6 million people.
President Trump united the Republican Party to deliver for the American people.

Perhaps liberals were disaffected by the total impotence of their efforts in June. The Supreme Court handed down a victory for President Donald Trump in Trump v. CASA, Inc., striking down the legality of universal injunctions of the sort used by federal judges to hamstring Trump’s national and border security policies. And, as of July 3, the “big, beautiful bill” has advanced to Trump’s desk.
Perhaps liberals just don’t care to trade in a day of fun for a day of “resistance.” All their anti-Trump blustering is just that — a conspicuous gesture that they’re on the right side of history. And a chance to feel good about themselves while accomplishing nothing at all.
To liberals, I say this. It’s okay to enjoy some fireworks. It’s fine to have fun at a 4th of July parade. You can have a hot dog or a hamburger. Take your pick. You don’t have to throw a contrived “protest” as an excuse for any of that.
