Let’s ready to rumble – in Texas and North Carolina! Both states sent voters to the polls for primaries, with two Republican Senate seats in the balance. In North Carolina, Republican Thom Tillis will retire at the end of the year. The question will be whether Republicans can nominate someone strong enough to win in November in a state that has trended too purple for comfort in midterm elections.

In Texas, the situation is different … for both parties. Republicans have a three-way food fight for the Senate that will likely end up in a runoff. The question will be which of these three will be without a seat when the music stops: incumbent John Cornyn, challenger and current AG Ken Paxton, or Rep. Wesley Hunt. Cornyn has gone scorched earth in TV ads all during the early-voting period, hammering Paxton for his personal and professional scandals, and Hunt for voting for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and missing ~ 20% of his roll call votes. I’d put my money on Cornyn and Paxton for the runoff, as neither has gotten to 50% in polling, which means Texas TV viewers will get a few more weeks of mud.

On the Democrat side, it’s already a two-way race. Firebrand progressive Jasmine Crockett has led the polls all the way, but state representative James Talarico has given the ol’ College Station try. (Just kidding; he represents Austin.) We’ll get a result tonight in this primary, and the GOP wants it to be Crockett. Trust me.

Polls close first in North Carolina (7:30 ET), so we’ll start there, as our friends at Decision Desk HQ will provide live results below:

Polls close in Texas right after that at 8 pm ET:
