One of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s aides unloaded on ABC executives after a host on “The View” called a socialist candidate and Mamdani ally an antisemite, according to Semafor.
“The View” co-hosts Sara Haines and Alyssa Farah Griffin went after some Mamdani-backed candidates in a June episode, criticizing the progressive candidates for their anti-Israel views. Haines attacked Darializa Avila Chevalier, a Democratic congressional candidate running for New York’s 13th district, for attending an anti-Israel rally on October 8, 2023, just one day after the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. “I’m gonna full-blown call her an antisemite,” Haines said of Chevalier. “She would proudly call herself that, trust me.”
After the show aired, one of Mamdani’s aides privately lashed out at ABC executives, arguing that the comments would discourage the mayor and other democratic socialist candidates from appearing on the program in the future, Semafor reported.

“The View” is already dialing back political coverage after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) began investigating the program for potentially violating the “equal time” rule, according to Semafor. The “equal time” rule is a 1930s regulation that requires broadcast programs to give equal airtime to political candidates. Since the investigation, the program has not featured any political candidates running in a “competitive midterm race,” according to a Semafor analysis.
