President Donald Trump convened a nearly four-hour cabinet meeting this week, addressing domestic security issues and foreign policy, and taking questions from the press afterward.

The meeting came in the wake of the federalization of the Washington, D.C., police force and the deployment of National Guard units to counter rising violent crime.

During the session, Trump noted that his administration had already created specialized units through executive order to target urban crime.

He said those forces could soon be deployed to Chicago, prompting strong opposition from Illinois Democrats.

When asked specifically about Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s reaction, Trump responded by saying he would prefer direct cooperation with state leaders.

“I would have much more respect for Pritzker if he’d call me up and say, ‘I have a problem, can you help me fix it?’ I would be so happy to do it,” Trump said.

“I have the right to do anything I want to do. I’m the president of the United States. If I think our country’s in danger, and it is in danger in these cities, I can do it. No problem going in and solving his difficulties, but it would be nice if they’d call and they’d say ‘Would you do it?’ And we’d do it in conjunction,” Trump continued.

Advisers have described the situation as unprecedented, with the administration weighing further steps to respond to violent crime in major cities.

The meeting included both policy discussions and lighter moments.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a joke about his workload, telling those gathered that this Labor Day would be especially meaningful for him. “I have four jobs,” Rubio said, drawing laughter from attendees.

The discussion also touched on foreign policy challenges, particularly the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Trump commented on Russia’s announcement that it would not negotiate with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, dismissing the statement as a negotiating tactic.

“Everybody’s posturing. It’s all bulls**t. Ok,” Trump said when asked about Russia’s position.

Administration officials reiterated that securing a peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv remains the White House’s central foreign policy priority.

A breakthrough in negotiations could place Trump in contention for international recognition, including consideration for the Nobel Peace Prize, according to insiders.

The extended cabinet meeting underscored the administration’s focus on both domestic and global crises.

While Democrats criticized the idea of expanding National Guard deployments into additional cities, Trump emphasized that his priority is reducing crime and restoring order.

The White House has not yet announced a timeline for possible deployments to Chicago or other cities, but officials confirmed that discussions remain ongoing.
