In a second video clip recorded moments later, the camera points upward as screaming is heard and eight gunshots ring out before the recording abruptly stops.
Just before the shots are fired, a woman can be heard saying, “I’ve got all this on camera,” as one teen appears to flash what investigators believe may be gang signs.
The video was posted to X on Dec. 29 and had more than 1.8 million views at the time it was reported.
Authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the shooting occurred around 1:10 p.m. on Christmas Day. Firefighters pronounced the teenage victim dead at the scene.
The boy was later identified as 16-year-old Zoen Flowers, according to sheriff’s officials.
In addition to Flowers, four other people were injured in the shooting. Law enforcement said a 17-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy, and two men, ages 19 and 2,9, were transported to a hospital and treated for gunshot wounds.
Their conditions were not released.
As of the latest update, no arrests have been announced, and the suspects involved in the shooting remain at large. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to requests for updated information.
Family members of the victim described Zoen Flowers as a young man who tried to do his best. One of his aunts told NBC4 that his mother is devastated by the loss.
“His mother is never going to stop crying for him,” she said.
Investigators have not publicly confirmed whether the shooting was gang-related, though the video evidence and circumstances are part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the sheriff’s department.
The shooting adds to ongoing concerns about violent crime involving juveniles and firearms in Southern California, particularly during holiday periods when community gatherings are more common.
The investigation remains active as detectives review video evidence and continue searching for those responsible.
