This little spiel from Megyn Kelly ought to be in the urban dictionary next to the phrase “too little, too late.” Here she is asking people to please be kind to Erika Kirk this week. And if you “don’t like her” just keep that to yourself.
.@MegynKelly: “I really, really, wish the people who have doubts about Erika Kirk would just keep them quiet this week. Whether you like her or you don’t like her, hopefully the human inside of you can see how difficult this is for her and the family… It’s just beyond human… pic.twitter.com/pB9sWrg9nG

Wow. Having Megyn Kelly of all people show sympathy for Erika Kirk’s mental state at this late date is really something. I think at this point we all know who has been leading the charge against Erika Kirk. Her name is Candace Owens and even in this clip you’ll notice that Kelly can’t bring herself to name Owens or to directly ask her to stop her attacks.
In case you’ve lost track, people have been asking Megyn Kelly to say something critical of Owens since last November. That’s when she had this exchange with Ben Shapiro on stage:
Shapiro brought up Candace Owens and suggested he and Kelly had a different approach to her. “I think that what Candace Owens is doing right now is evil,” Shapiro said. This brought a cheer from the crowd.
“My position is it’s really none of my business,” Kelly replied.
“Why is it none of your business?” Shapiro asked.
“I’m not mother of the internet,” Kelly said.
“But if this were on the left and somebody were accusing Charlie Kirk…of his wife of having murdered him, I assume that you would be talking about it,” Shapiro said.
“Is that what Candace is accusing Erica of?”
Why is Mrs. I’m-not-the-mother-of-the-internet suddenly asking people to tone it down? It’s none of her business. Right?
Kelly has been playing this game for 8 months now. Last December she went on a rant about self-appointed investigators who were demanding updates from the FBI about the Kirk case. There’s no doubt who she’s talking about here but she won’t name any names. She can’t just come out and say Candace is a know-nothing. So she just issues these vague pronouncements.
BREAKING: Megyn Kelly slams Candace Owens and others for trying to inject themselves into the investigation of Charlie Kirk’s murder.
“STOP requesting or requiring the FBI or the DOJ to update its evidence for YOU.”

But a month after that, she was back to saying she’s not “Candace Owens’ policeman.”

She’s definitely not Candace’s policeman. In fact she’s closer to being her defense lawyer. No matter what Candace says, Kelly is there to ignore it and demand that people leave Owens alone.
Which is fine I guess. If you want to sell your credibility for your friendship with a psychopath, that’s a choice you can make. But then don’t show up 8 months later saying this:
.@MegynKelly: “I really, really, wish the people who have doubts about Erika Kirk would just keep them quiet this week. Whether you like her or you don’t like her, hopefully the human inside of you can see how difficult this is for her and the family… It’s just beyond human… pic.twitter.com/pB9sWrg9nG

Memo to Megyn: If you care about the terrible situation Erika Kirk is in, and it really is terrible enough without the insinuations coming from Candace Owens, start by naming her chief tormentor. If you’re going to ask people to stop being cruel, start with the person rallying people to attack Erika. Don’t tell us you’re not the mother of the internet when someone mentions Candace and then get all mopey about how mean people are to Erika. You absolutely cannot have it both ways.
Megyn Kelly is literally the last person on earth who is going to solve this problem. If anyone should keep quiet this week on this topic, it’s her.
