Michigan Dem El-Sayed Repeatedly Melts Down on Live TV as Jesse Watters Asks Basic Questions [WATCH]

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El Sayed walked into a bruising prime-time interview Monday and found Fox News host Jesse Watters waiting with a long list of questions.

The progressive candidate was pressed on Sharia law, wealth taxes, socialized medicine, Iran, women’s sports, reparations, and his record of incendiary rhetoric.

The fiery exchange came as El Sayed battles former Republican congressman Mike Rogers in a high-stakes Michigan Senate contest.

The race offers voters a stark choice between Rogers and a Democrat carrying a policy agenda firmly rooted in the progressive left.

Watters confronted El Sayed about his adherence to Sharia law and past comments connecting attempts to eliminate it with White supremacy.

Vice President JD Vance has also hammered the candidate over those remarks, arguing that El Sayed represents a Democratic Party far removed from its old working-class image.

“Nobody is trying to push Sharia law on anyone else, just like I hope nobody is trying to push Canon law on anybody else, because we live in an America where you should have the freedom of your religion,” El Sayed told Watters.

He also said he would “never” force his religious beliefs on another person.

El Sayed then claimed the Trump administration had singled him out because he is Muslim.

“There’s statistical evidence that the president and the vice president like to target me simply as a function of my faith,” he said, offering a familiar progressive pivot from policy scrutiny to accusations of targeted mistreatment.

The Democrat also attacked Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville over legislation intended to prevent foreign nationals who advocate Sharia law from entering the United States.

Those proposals include the No Sharia Act and the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act, measures aimed at protecting American constitutional government.

Watters soon turned to El Sayed’s call for dramatically higher taxes on wealthy Americans.

During a podcast appearance, the candidate said, “I also think we got to start taxing wealth for people who now have over $100 million. I mean at that point like what are gonna even do with more money?”

Watters delivered the obvious answer that millions of Americans would probably give.

“What are you going to do with more money? Whatever I want!” he said, rejecting the notion that politicians should decide when a citizen has earned enough and may surrender the rest to Washington.

El Sayed has repeatedly denounced “the 1%” and portrayed wealthy Americans as a corrupting force in politics.

He argued that confiscating more private wealth would improve roads, schools, and other public services, as if government’s habitual spending failures could be cured by handing it another mountain of cash.

“The question ultimately is, ‘Do you want to drive on good roads, or would you rather have a billionaire make a second billion?’ That’s what Mike Rogers wants. That’s what Donald Trump wants. Apparently, that’s what you want. I think the people in Michigan want something different,” El Sayed said.

That populist pitch comes with an inconvenient detail.

El Sayed and his wife reported $686,069 in income during 2025, putting their household among Michigan’s highest earners and proving once again that socialist flavored lectures often sound best from a very comfortable financial perch.

El Sayed accused Watters of “defending billionaires,” but the host pushed back with a defense of basic property rights.

“No, I just think I have the right to the fruits of my own labor. That’s America. It’s not communist what you’re talking about.”

The candidate insisted billionaires could easily absorb his proposed tax burden.

“If we tax you at 7%, you’re still going to make what? A cool $30 million off your billion dollars? I think that’s okay; they’re going to be okay, Jesse,” he said.

El Sayed also attacked Rogers as a “beta” male who “thinks he is running against Hasan Piker.”

He accused the Republican of avoiding interviews, although El Sayed appeared noticeably less eager when Watters raised biological men competing in women’s sports and his previous description of the NFL as racist.

The Democrat further argued that considering reparations for Black Americans “shouldn’t be a crazy thing.”

He also criticized American involvement in conflicts “we don’t know how to get out of,” citing the war with Iran while presenting himself as the candidate who would challenge Washington’s foreign policy establishment.

Michigan voters now have a clear look at the agenda before them.

El Sayed is offering wealth redistribution, socialized health care, reparations discussions, progressive cultural politics, and complaints that tough questions amount to religious targeting, while Rogers is positioning himself as the barrier against that leftward march.
