Milei: UN ‘Useless Organization Whose…Purpose Is to Sustain a Caste of Fatally Arrogant Parasites’

I think we can rest assured that Javier Milei will not retire from the Argentine presidency to become a diplomat.

Thank God. We are being strangled by red tape and smothered to death by the pillows of soft words. 

Much attention has rightly focused on Donald Trump’s speech to the United Nations at the 81st General Assembly, and why not? Trump was Trump, and Trump is always fascinating to watch, although admittedly it’s sometimes in a car-crash sort of way. 

You know, the Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat.

But given that I have seen enough Trump kicking the bad guys in the nuts for a while, the speech that caught my attention was Javier Milei’s. 

When Milei came on the scene, I just assumed he would be a flash in the pan, but it turned out that he not only won despite the odds, but has remained a winner. Much of that stems from his refusal to play the game by the “norms” set by the usual incumbents. He says what he means, does what he says, and he is right much more often than he is wrong. 

It helps, at home at least, that his opponents have discredited themselves, but Milei is perfectly willing to take on all comers. And that is what he did in New York City. 

His speech was a tour de force, and made the pampered elites sitting before him squirm. It was wonderful.

Milei began his speech by flattering the aspirations that supposedly led to the formation of the United Nations, as well he should have. The existence of the UN is justified by those aspirations, and much of its supposed legitimacy is based on people believing that the aspirations match the reality, at least of the intent behind UN actions. 

Seventy-eight years ago, this house declared that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Noble words whose spirit I fully share. To that end, it undertook to uphold international law, defend the sovereignty of nations, and provide a forum in which conflicts could be resolved through cooperation, rather than immediately through the force of arms.

That was the original purpose, the contract that we all signed. But today, regrettably, it is time to acknowledge that in practice that sacred covenant has been broken. 

If the UN were a gentleman’s club, we could deride them without much caring about their blather. But making fun of the United Nations is not enough. Its members still invoke the ideals for which it was founded, and millions of people take them seriously because of it. 

The parasites at the UN matter, not because they do good, but because people think they do good. They suck down resources, fund terrorists, smear the reputations of good people, and deploy “peacekeepers” who don’t keep the peace. 

The UN has run sex trafficking operations, spread disease, and victimized countless people. In five letters you can sum up the evil that is the UN: UNRWA. 

But being a representative to the UN is a good gig. You get to live in a vibrant city, break whatever law you want, live high off the hog, and lecture people on their moral responsibilities. 

Milei punctured that inflated sense of self-worth and did it to their faces. 

Will it change anything? Unfortunately, no. But it makes me feel a bit better, so I’ll have to be satisfied with that for the moment, at least until we finally convert the UN building into condos.
