An MTA vehicle exploded into a large fireball near Wall Street’s Charging Bull statue during the Tuesday evening rush hour, sending bystanders running for safety in Lower Manhattan, as reported by the New York Post.

The fire happened outside the MTA’s headquarters at 2 Broadway, near the corner of Broadway and Stone Street, and about a block from the famous Charging Bull statue.

Video from the scene showed the vehicle burning before it suddenly erupted into a fireball as people nearby shouted and ran away.

Police and firefighters were called to the scene at about 5:42 p.m., an FDNY spokesperson told The Post. Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control, a process that took nearly 90 minutes, according to sources.

The FDNY said there were no injuries reported.

Footage from the area showed flames coming from the vehicle outside the MTA headquarters before the explosion. The vehicle then burst into a larger fireball, forcing onlookers to move quickly away from the area.

A later image shared on social media showed the burned wreckage of the vehicle outside a Starbucks near the scene. The vehicle appeared heavily damaged after the fire.

The MTA confirmed that the car belonged to the agency. The agency referred additional questions about the fire to the FDNY.

There have been no reports indicating that the blaze was suspicious. Officials said the fire remains under investigation.

The incident happened in one of Manhattan’s busiest areas during rush hour, near Wall Street and several major commuter locations.

The Charging Bull statue, one of New York City’s most recognizable landmarks, sits nearby and draws heavy foot traffic from tourists, workers, and residents throughout the day.

The car fire briefly turned the area outside the MTA’s headquarters into a chaotic scene as flames grew and then exploded. Video showed people reacting quickly as the fireball erupted from the burning vehicle.

Firefighters continued working at the scene until the blaze was fully controlled. Authorities did not immediately release the cause of the fire.

The charred remains of the vehicle were still visible after the flames were put out. The FDNY’s investigation will determine what caused the MTA vehicle to catch fire and explode near the corner of Broadway and Stone Street.

The incident drew attention because of its location near the heart of the Financial District and because the fire broke out just steps from a major city agency’s headquarters.

Officials have not said whether the vehicle was occupied when the fire began, and no injuries were reported.

The MTA has not released further details about the vehicle beyond confirming that it was one of its own.
