New Poll Spells Disaster For America’s Future As Younger Voters Embrace Socialism

Younger Americans who identify as supportive of the Democratic Party are increasingly embracing socialism, according to a new poll.

A nationwide New York Times/Siena National poll of Democratic Party supporters released last week found 49 percent of respondents between the ages of 18 and 29 had either a very favorable or somewhat favorable view of socialism. Meanwhile, 58 percent of respondents between the ages of 30 and 44 held either a very favorable or somewhat favorable view. The survey was carried out with 1,507 registered voters across the country from May 11 to May 15.

Overall, the NYT/Siena poll found that among all Democrats, 49 percent said they held either a very favorable or somewhat favorable view of socialism. However, among older Democratic Party supporters, socialisms favorablility drops, with only 36 percent expressing support among those over the age of 65.

Among white Democrats, 53 percent reported having either a very or somewhat favorable view of socialism, with 54 percent of men viewing the ideology favorably to just 45 percent of women. Notably, only 43 percent of non-white respondents said they had either a very or somewhat favorable view of socialism. Socialism, according to the NYT/Siena poll, is most popular with Democratic Party supporters who hold either a bachelor’s degree or higher, with 59 percent reporting either a very or somewhat favorable view. Among respondents without a bachelor’s degree, just 40 percent viewed socialism either very or somewhat favorably.

Last year, Gallup found similar levels of support for socialism among Democrats. According to a September 2025 Gallup survey, 66 percent of Democrats held a positive view of socialism, compared to just 42 percent who held a positive view of capitalism.

The rise in support for socialism among young Democratic Party supporters comes amid the increasing popularity of far-leftists such as streamer and social media personality Hasan Piker. During a debate at Yale University in mid-April, Piker bemoaned the fall of the Soviet Union.

“The fall of the USSR was one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century. Just wait, listen, maybe you’ll agree. Not only was there incalculable harm done to every single country under its banner. Child prostitution, skyrocketing suicide rates, life expectancy plummeting. But America was no longer contested around the globe,” Piker stated.

Piker — along with Code Pink’s Medea Benjamin — was hit with a subpoena from the U.S. Treasury Department over his participation in the “Nuestra America Convoy,” which traveled to Cuba in March. The move was first repored this past Saturday. The convoy’s goal was purportedly to provide humanitarian aid and protest President Donald Trump’s blockade of the communist-ruled island.
