A Colorado college student was detained earlier this month after striking an elderly man during a meeting at Fort Lewis College concerning the approval of a new Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter.

The incident occurred November 7 after the Associated Students of Fort Lewis College (ASFLC) voted in an emergency meeting to approve the group following an earlier rejection.

According to a campus police report, student Megan Elizabeth Hope Mollett was detained after hitting local resident Dave Peters during a confrontation captured on camera.

Peters was attending the meeting and applauding the approval of the TPUSA chapter when the incident took place.

The case was filed as “harassment,” and Mollett was released with a warning.

The police report states that approximately 70 people attended the meeting, with attendees expressing a wide range of political views.

The report describes an “elderly male” in a red jacket approaching a student who was “booing and yelling.”

The report identifies the man as Peters and the student as Mollett, who goes by Nova and uses they/them pronouns. According to the report, Peters began recording Mollett using his phone.

“Mollett began to strike Peters [sic] phone and hand with an empty Taco Bell cup after he approached with his phone in his hand,” the report said.

Peters, 66, a former chair of the La Plata County GOP and retired Chevron Corporation executive, told Fox News Digital that he did not seek criminal charges but believed the college should pursue disciplinary action.

“After they adjourned the meeting and the people started walking out, about 20 of us started clapping and then there was a fair amount of students that were booing,” Peters said.

He also described a separate confrontation involving a retired professor.

“Then, right after that, there was this 55-year-old or 60-year-old guy that later we found out he was a former professor at Fort Lewis College, and he started to come up to me, and he said, you’re a Nazi, you are a fascist and kept on repeating that,” Peters said.

The man was identified as David Kozak, a former anthropology professor.

Kozak was also recorded reacting strongly to the TPUSA chapter’s approval.

The police report notes that he flipped off someone recording the scene and called TPUSA supporters “Nazis.”

The college did not confirm whether disciplinary action would be taken.

A campus spokesperson told Fox News Digital: “All Fort Lewis College students are expected to uphold the standards outlined in our Student Code of Conduct. The college affirms the importance of free speech while maintaining expectations for civility and safety.”

When asked whether Mollett would face consequences, the spokesperson said the school does not comment on student conduct matters due to federal privacy law (FERPA) but stated that the institution “takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and follows established disciplinary procedures.”

The police officer who detained Mollett wrote in the report that he instructed Mollett and others to remain calm.

“I told Mollett I understood tensions were high due to a politically motivated meeting that was happening, but they needed to take a breath and calm down. I informed Mollett they could be charged with harassment or assault due to striking Peters,” the officer stated.

He said Mollett was permitted to rejoin friends after being warned to remain calm.

The meeting and subsequent incident followed weeks of debate over the proposed TPUSA chapter.

Senior Jonah Flynn’s request to establish the chapter prompted initial pushback and a petition urging the student government to deny approval.

A counter-petition later emerged supporting the chapter, and ASFLC reversed its earlier decision in the emergency vote.

Peters said he supported the organization’s message.

“I believed in what Charlie Kirk was doing, and I believe that his approach on dealing with people with different views was not overly combative, it was just engaging in the right way to go, and I believe in free speech,” he said.
