An Ohio father allegedly took justice into his own hands after discovering that his 11-year-old daughter had been sexually assaulted inside the family home. Police say the father posed as the girl on TikTok, lured the suspected attacker back to the residence, and shot him twice.

Malik Chandler, 31, was charged with felony assault following the July shooting at his Grove City home. The wounded man, identified as 20-year-old Diego Montoya Gonzalez, now faces rape and child exploitation charges stemming from a deeply disturbing investigation.

Prosecutors said the shocking chain of events began when the girl’s mother found a video on her daughter’s phone. Authorities allege the recording showed Montoya Gonzalez sexually assaulting the child inside the family’s home.

The discovery is the kind of nightmare that makes any decent parent’s blood boil. According to investigators, Chandler responded the next day by taking control of his daughter’s TikTok account and pretending to be the girl.

Authorities said Chandler used the account to persuade Montoya Gonzalez to return to the home. Once the young man arrived, the confrontation quickly turned violent, leaving him wounded by two gunshots.

Chandler reportedly told investigators that his original plan was to beat Montoya Gonzalez, detain him, and call police. He said the situation escalated when he believed Montoya Gonzalez was reaching into his pocket for a firearm.

The father then grabbed his own gun from a counter and opened fire, according to the account he gave investigators. Police have not indicated that a weapon was recovered from Montoya Gonzalez during the confrontation.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found Montoya Gonzalez sitting in a chair with two gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel transported him to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment.

Chandler was arrested and charged with felony assault, while a judge set his bond at $100,000. The criminal case means the father must now answer for the shooting even as prosecutors pursue serious allegations involving his daughter.

The law does not provide parents with a free pass to arrange violent confrontations, no matter how revolting the underlying accusation may be. Still, the stark difference between the bond amounts in the two cases is certain to raise eyebrows among Americans already frustrated with the justice system.

A grand jury indicted Montoya Gonzalez on Friday on five counts of pandering sexually oriented material, two counts of rape, and one count of obstruction of official business. Those charges substantially widened the case beyond the alleged assault involving Chandler’s daughter.

Prosecutors allege investigators found several videos on Montoya Gonzalez’s phone depicting the sexual abuse of children. One recording allegedly involved an infant or toddler, adding another sickening layer to an already horrifying case.

The girl’s parents attended Montoya Gonzalez’s arraignment Monday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. A judge imposed a $20,000 recognizance bond along with a $50,000 cash bond, according to local reports.

If Montoya Gonzalez secures his release, he has been ordered to avoid all contact with the girl and her family. The court also barred him from using the internet for anything outside of employment, an especially notable restriction given the allegations surrounding digital videos and TikTok.

The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office did not immediately provide additional information about the cases. Chandler and Montoya Gonzalez now face separate legal battles arising from one grim episode, with a child and her family left at the center of a case no parent should ever have to endure.
