Peak Suicidal Empathy?

I have been following with one eye a story about a Scottish woman in Greece who was murdered by an Afghan migrant.

It caught my eye because it was not some random murder; she was a Christian who worked for a nonprofit that served refugees, and she was murdered by an Afghan man who had come to Greece as a small boat refugee. 

I likely wouldn’t have written about it, though, but for this new tidbit that came out: back in 2016, when Sharif Ahmadzai first arrived, the Red Cross did a short collaborative video of his sympathetic story of escape from Afghanistan to humanize the Muslim migrants who were flooding Europe at the time. 

“See? They are just like you and me! Please contribute to the Red Cross so we can help bring more young men like Sharif to Europe’s shores!”

Greek police just arrested a 26-y-old Afghan asylum seeker for the murder of the 38-y-old Scottish woman Elisabeth-Jane Ross.

He murdered her because he thought she was attempting to convert his girlfriend to Christianity.

Elisabeth-Jane worked for a Christian NGO aiding refugees in Athens.

On July 18th, a homeless man noticed a foul odor coming from a derelict building in Athens. 

Inside, he discovered Lisa’s body wrapped in cloth and stuffed inside a suitcase.

The story is gruesome, and there are still many details to come out, and none of them are going to make you more sympathetic to Sharif or Afghan refugees. So far we have several versions of what happened, the motivations, and whether Sharif had or had not converted to Christianity at some point.

Sharif’s story, as presented in the Red Cross film, sure seems sympathetic. But of course it was his version of the story and gussied up by the Red Cross to make him seem like a wonderful kid, so who really knows what’s real and what is a second-rate Hollywood production?

The Red Cross has deleted a film tracking the journey of an Afghan migrant who is now accused of killing a British woman and hiding her body in a suitcase in Greece. 

Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, was arrested on Monday over the murder of Scottish Christian Elisabeth-Jane Ross, in Athens. 

Ahmadzai, a professional boxer who arrived in Greece on a small boat in 2016, is accused of killing Ms Ross before stuffing her body into a suitcase and ditching it in a derelict building.    

The 38-year-old’s body was found by a homeless man on July 18, three days after she is believed to have been killed. 

It has now emerged the Afghan-national collaborated with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and a London artist to create a film following how he escaped Afghanistan and reached the Greek island of Lesbos aged 15. 

The four-minute animated film, named Game of Life: The Story of Sharif, was first shown on YouTube in December 2016, and includes a narration of his six-week migrant crossing. 

The sympathetic video follows how his father, who was a military commander, was killed in an ambush and his mother and siblings were killed by a suicide bomb attack in Kabul. 

Perhaps his story is true. Perhaps not. At some point it really doesn’t matter, does it? No doubt his lawyers will package it together, just as the Red Cross did, to make Sharif seem like a victimized young man from another culture, and oh-so-sympathetic. 

The reality? He’s a vicious guy who murdered a Christian woman who was trying to help people in need. Very Islamist of him. Just as the Hamas terrorists rampaged through a village filled with people who had spent their lives helping Gazans get medical attention on October 7th.  

Same vibe, right? He reportedly told some friends he killed her because he was an Islamist.

The video opens with, ‘each migrant has a story worthy of a Hollywood movie’.

Ahmadzai’s journey from Afghanistan to Greece is said to have taken one-and-a-half months, with the smuggler quoted as calling it a ‘game’. 

During which time, Ahmadzai was arrested in Istanbul after his first attempt to cross into Greece, the video described, and was held in prison for three days.

The video also reveals Ahmadzai intended to reach the UK, where he claimed he had family who would look after him should he successfully cross from Greece. 

Voiced by an actor, he says: ‘She told me: “I can take full responsibility of you, if someone helps get you to the UK.” But, if I can’t get there, I don’t know what will happen to me.’ 

Scott Craig, a spokesman for the charity, told the Daily Mail: ‘Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Elisabeth-Jane Ross at this extremely difficult time.

‘The video is no longer publicly accessible. We took this decision out of consideration for Elisabeth’s family while the legal proceedings continue.

The Red Cross’ video was a perfect bit of propaganda; sanitized, turned into a cartoon, and designed to pluck every heartstring you can reach. Sharif and his companions are the good guys who need your help! Please contribute on our website!

The Mail story emphasizes several times that Sharif was a Christian convert, although it does note that he had also said he was an Islamist, so take all that as you will. I’m not inclined to believe much we are told about this guy, given that he was a poster boy for refugees until a few days ago. 

What we do know for sure is that he killed his victim, stuffed her in a suitcase, took her new iPhone, cash, and cards, and is now claiming that some guy told him to hide the body. 

Whatever. 

It’s all part of the same pattern we see all the time now. Afghan refugees from a medieval culture coming to the West and leaving chaos and death in their wake. Western do-gooders doing their best to help, turning them into sympathetic victims, and then trying to clean up the mess to protect their reputations when it all goes to hell.

She had reportedly asked him not to commit terrorism, so I guess that makes it OK. 

“Please, son, it would be bad for my political career.” 

Luckily, the police stopped him, no thanks to her. 

Please, can we stop romanticizing islamic “refugees?”
