Philly DA: Let’s Blow Up Trump’s Ballroom and Keep Pieces for Souvenirs

A question for the Secret Service: Is a threat to blow up the White House complex worth an investigation? At least a visit to test whether someone needs a wee bit more … supervision, at least?

Philadelphia’s radical DA Larry Krasner didn’t mean this in a philosophical or political sense. Krasner clearly proposed to demolish the upcoming White House ballroom and “blow it up,” even specifying what he’d do with the rubble. It’s a threat, and although it doesn’t cross the Brandenburg v Ohio line of imminence, it crosses several lines of stupidity and insanity:

Philly’s NBC affiliate covered Krasner’s craziness at the city’s “annual slavery commiseration”:

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner had some words Tuesday for President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom at the annual slavery commiseration at the President’s House in Old City. …

Krasner also said that the President’s House site with a memorial and educational content will continue to exist in the years to come, while Trump’s ballroom will not.

“In about 10 to 15 years, we are all going to be sitting here with smiles on our faces,” Krasner said. “And I’m going to have a paper weight sitting on my desk. And do you know what that paper weight’s going to be? It’s going to be a piece of the ballroom after we blow it up.”

Krasner also said that the ballroom’s explosion will be done in an “official ceremony,” and the ballroom’s pieces will be sold to pay back the taxpayers.

Krasner has said a lot of very stupid things on the way to prosecuting very few criminals in Philadelphia, but this is beyond stupid, and qualifies more as a sign of mental illness. What about a building renovation in Washington, D.C. has Krasner so obsessed that he thinks bombing the White House is an appropriate response? Of all the cases of TDS out there, this may be the TDS-est among elected officials.

Also, let’s take this “proposal” at face value. What would bombing the ballroom accomplish? It would leave a big hole in the ground, not to mention all of the collateral damage an explosion would cause. Even a normal demolition of the ballroom would leave the White House without a usable East Wing again, not to mention the ugly aesthetics that other TDS sufferers claimed when suing to stop the construction. Taxpayers would still have to fund another construction project, this time the whole bill rather than just the secure areas added to Trump’s privately funded ballroom. 

And what would Krasner’s new East Wing have? Almost certainly another ballroom, because Trump is correct; presidents have been asking for an appropriate facility for state dinners and other events for decades. People who have worked in previous administrations of both parties have affirmed the need for a more secure option than tents on the lawn, especially in the age of drone warfare, not to mention bomb-throwing crazies like Krasner and the lunatics he may have inspired with his idiotic threat yesterday. 

But hey, at least Krasner would have … a paperweight!
